At first you think, "God this is a wierd movie. It's just two dudes lost in the desert." Until you realize that it is actually a great social commentary about the young men in today's society. About how they have nothing to say, how they are all lost, and how they are in the desert killin each other (current middle eastern conflicts). It is also directed by Gus Van Sant in a way that it somehow remains interesting. You find youself watching minute after minute, just waiting to see if they will say something, and when they do it's pretty funny actually, or if you are gonna see some great shots of the desert, making the landscape a character all it's own. Just watch it, and think twice about it. It's real easy to discard, but don't.
