Lets start with the story.
This movie answers a lot of questions that we're left open in the original franchise. We learn how & why Jason becomes the unstoppable killing machine that he is. We see how he attained his mask & how he is able to move through the area & stalk with such ease. There are so many things in this film that answer questions about who Jason is, what he does & how he does it, that it would be unfair to the fans to say that it wasn't done well.
Derek Mears plays an incredible Jason. It started to hit me half way through the film that he'd done his homework. He adds more anger & brutallity to the character than ever before. It's like seeing Kane Hodder's Jason on steroids, & to see Jason actually running full speed after someone & swinging a machette with both hands gave me chills i haven't had since the first time he put on that mask.
As far as the acting goes.. Cmon people.. they're following the Horror code precisely. Take some good looking teens. Add some T&A, a little bit of sex, & some drug use & you've got the makings of a classic slasher flick.
One thing i really did appreciate (as a fan) was the fact that they gave homage to many different scenes from the original movies. The opening scene was a big part of that.. Although i wouldve loved to see Besty Palmer come back, the woman who played Mrs. Voorhees did an amazing job. The ending was brilliant as well, giving homage to the original film.
Overall, i really did enjoy watching this film & i'm really looking forward to seeing the sequels.
It's been a long time coming.. but Jason is finally back..
..and he's out for blood..

Opinions vary my friend, & your entitled to yours. Yes, i have seen all 10 of the originals so there's no need to assume that im guessing anything. I'm sure that you would agree though that there are some things in movies that don't need an answer. It's like knowing the secret to a magic trick. Once you know, the trick loses its appeal. Who cares what Jason does in his "off time". He could play with naked-headless barbies for all i care. It seems kind of logical to assume that that was Jasons weed crop though. lol.. i mean ..who came to take care of it, water it.. Jason wouldve just killed them..So im pretty sure Jason smokes weed. (ha). If you remember, at the end of Friday the 13th when Jason makes his appearance, he was deformed. He's a mongoloid & always has been. This just happens to be the "look" that they chose for this film.. Jasons looked a lot more "unrealistic" than that in a few of the other past movies. As far as the vacation home goes.. in my opinion, thats just it.. its a vacation home.. therefor, if theyre only there for a week or two at the most then why would they have reason to run into Jason. If i recall, there was a lady in the flick who made the statement "We just want to be left alone.. and so does he.". If Jason wanted to be left alone then it would be natural to assume that he wouldnt go looking for people to slaughter. The camp was in the middle of the woods, out of the way & closed. If this we're the small town that we were meant to believe it was, then it can also be natural to assume that the locals just stay away.. The lady in the film also stated "Locals come through, they don't know where to walk.. they bring trouble". The fact is, there arent any perfect movies & some things just don't need an answer for the movie to be good.
as far as the mask goes.. This movie was a re-telling & a culmination of the first 3. Maybe they thought that the idea of Jason getting the mask off some guy he just killed was a little lame. & if your gonna argue that, then you can also argue the fact that Jason somehow managed to get electricity out to the camp, or how me managed to survive a machette to the chest, but why bother...Although it's not perfect it was still a good flick & a great remake.
... & wouldn't it be cool if Jason was a cannibal? lol.

No open ends? Really? C'mon on dude. This flick was just a common slasher film. And the only thing the movie answered was how Jason moves around the woods quickly (underground tunnels). But pretty much nothing else.
Why he wears the hockey mask was answered in the original series from the get go. He took it off a fat dude he killed. Didn't you see the original 10 movies? Or are you just guessing here?
If the movie answered so many questions as you say... answer me these:
Why is he so deformed? He was just a normal child when he supposedly drowned?
What does he do on his down time? Does he watch tv? Play with dolls? What? The movie explains nothing of his psyche.
Why is it that Trent's family vaction home has been there for years and years, yet Trent has never heard of Jason Voorhees? Shouldn't he or his parents have met up with the big guy earlier? And if the parents had, wouldn't they have forbid Trent to EVER go there?
Why is it the Donnie character in the woodchipper mill had never heard of Jason either? Shouldn't he have run into him alot earlier?
Is Jason a cannibal? Does he eat his prey? He's obviously seen taking the dead bodies somewhere into his tunnels. For what?
Fact is... there are so many unanswered questions. This is a good slasher film but its NOT perfect.

Yes. It has to be given 5 stars.. The story was badass & didnt have any leaks or open ends, The direction was awesome. Michael Bay is amazing. The visual look of the film was clean & original. I gave the acting 4 stars because..well, lets face it... without a little crappy acting, it wouldnt be a Friday the 13th movie. I feel confident that 5 stars overall is accurate.
