Simply amazing how most of the footage shot was for engineering and doc*menting purposes, not meant to be something artistic or beautiful. It puts the space program into scale as one of the greatest achievements of the human race. I can't put it into words, the images are just too powerful. Seeing people fly around the earth and the moon in a tin can is so exhilarating and scary I just had to laugh at some of the sights. You definitely get a sense of the wild west frontier in being on the edge of human civilization, taking it into the next world. And in the contrast of those days' most powerful technology compared to today's. Some parts of the ships' guidance being at the hands of the astronauts instead of being fully automatic is a great sign of the times. The narration by the astronauts and crew is confusing at times trying to keep track of who is who, but what is being said is really what matters. Watch this on bluray. It is beautiful. And the special feature of Al Reinert visiting the NASA film archive is really interesting.
