Fargo directed by Joel and Ethan Coen stands out as a classic crime drama. At a short 98 minutes this film will have you hooked from the very start. The story might be complicated for some at first but I loved it. Oh, and dont forget it is based on a true story. The film is about a car salesman who hires two men to kidnap his wife for $80,000. Small-town police chief Marge Gunderson investigates the crime. Then everything goes wrong after that which sets off a chain of murders. The cast is superb and stars Frances McDormand who plays the police chief. She won the Best Actress award for her performance. William H. Macy as Jerry Lundegaard, the car salesman who plots here wife's abduction. Macy's performance is very underrated and I thought he got snubbed at the Oscars. Steve Buscemi plays Carl Showalter a criminal who is enlisted by Lundegaard to kidnip his wife. He is as good as can be. His partner is the psychotic Gaear Grimsrud played by Peter Stormare. Stormare does an excellent job as the villian.

The soundtrack was fantastic and is mostly insturmental. And when I hear the song I know this was from Fargo.

The dialogue is one of the best values of the film. I thought the film was very funny and the accents were dead on perfect. Without the comedy the film wouldnt be the same.

Very Violent at some times, and darkly funny, Fargo delivers as one of the best films of the 90s. And as one of the best films I have ever seen.

This is filmaking at its best. Everything about this film is perfect. This is one of the few films where I have nothing negative to say. This is cinematic delight from start to end. Go see this entertaining film, you'll love it.

I haven't seen this in 12yrs, and can only recall the woodchipper scene, the parking garage shooting, the rooftop payoff, the husband's arrest, Stormare's arrest, and Buscemi burying the money w/out being able to relocate it. So yeah, i needa see this flick again.

Wow, I never knew that. Thanks for telling me. lol
    Its still a great story.
I agree with you Frances was great, but they were better. As well, as Macy.

they lied about it being based on a true story actually. they actually culled details from other Fargo, NorDak crimes over the years to comprise this. They only said that since they were popular, then therefore if they were to claim it was a true story (and given their film's general dark comedy/content) then more people would go see it...and it worked. though they got criticized on awards night by interviewers for doing that. lol

And Buscemi/Stormare made this movie for me more than Frances. Though she was great too.
