There are two audiences a critic is to view a movie for.  Firstly, for (him/her)self.  Secondly, for the intended audience.  There are many times where the first trumps all, but there are others where the second allows me to more favorably view a film.

Such is the case with 'Dude, Where's My Car?' The movie follows two potheads (Sean William Scott; Ashton Kutcher) who have woken up one morning with no remembrance of what has happened the night before.  Much has happened, but they can't remember any of it.  Soon they set out on an adventure to try and find out what happened to their vehicle, which supposedly holds the secrets of the night before.

The casting here is great.  I've always thought these two lead actors would be great for a movie like this.  Ashton Kutcher is perfect for this role (which is aggravating, considering he always plays the same character in every movie nowadays).

The movie is also very funny at times.  I like the dry, unashamed approach to the humor.  The screenplay is at times distant when it should he direct, but the minds of our heroes are distant and not direct.

It is here that I must make a distinction between me and the audience intended.  I do not like stoner movies.  I find them to be annoying.  I find the characters to be more of plot devices and gags rather than just stoned people.  This movie is like a mashup of The Hangover in premise, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure in characters, and The Pink Panther remake in brains.

Now for people who enjoy these stoner movies, they will love this one.  It has all of the humor one in this group could want.  A similar more recent movie is Pineapple Express.  Besides that one's overviolent nature and more heavy tone, this is a good comparrison to see if this us one you'll like.  Dude, Where's My Car is inoffensive and light, but it just isn't for me.  Based on your preference, make your pick.

GAH! This was meant to be 2.5 stars, not 3! Oh well.
