I am at a loss for words. I have been greatly anticipating this film, and I thought I would just like it. Yes it was the film I was anticipating most this summer, but usually the films I anticipate most turn out to either just be good, or disappoint. But not this film, no not at all. District 9 is not only the best film I have seen all year (yeah, it was better than Watchmen by a hair), but one of the best films ever.

Let's go over each of the aspects of the review. The film's story concerned a spaceship landing in South Africa in the early eighties. After 3 months, the South African government decided to infiltrate the spaceship and see what was aboard it. They found over a million crustacean like creatures who they decided to bring into South Africa.

The government then decided to house them in a slum called District 9. The government turned to a company called M(ulti) N(ational) U(nited) to help them with there infestation. 28 years later, the government seeks to bring the creatures (that the public nicknamed Prawns) to a different kind of slum called District 10 (which is really a concentration camp).

Wikus Van De Merwe is a cubicle dwelling agent for MNU who is put in charge of evicting the aliens from their homes. But, tragically, Wikus is infected with a gas that he finds in the home of one of the prawns, and he slowly begins to become a prawn himself. The film then chronicles his journey to become human again.

The acting was phenominal, especially newcomer Sharlto Copley as Wikus, David James as the incredibly sadistic Koobus Venter, and really everyone in the film did an equally amazing job, so I don't know why I'm saying some are better than others.

Directing was amazing, but I really need to talk about the amazing visuals. Everything is pleasing to the eye, and all of the battle sequences in the film make all the kiddy crap in Transformers 2 look like the Care Bears. And whenever someone gets shot, expect BLOOD! Especially with the alien guns. Some of them actually make people explode, which is amazing!

Overall, this was an absolutely amazing film that must be seen to be believed
