Dinosaur: Review By Jakn

Disney's first CGI animated film has unbelievable graphics for its animation, but has a bewilderingly dull-written script and a small and weak story

'Dinosaur' is Disney's first CGI animated movie just coming from Disney themselves (not Pixar), but 'Dinosaur' isn't like anything that would have come from the Pixar Company. What I mean by that is that this film doesn't have enough brains for its script and story to be good, but this film doesn't have anything but dinosaurs and dinosaurs aren't very bright. So what do you expect from a bunch of dinosaurs?

Actually come to think of animated dinosaurs I do remember those cute little dinosaurs from 'The Land Before Time' franchise, but I can't necessarily compare 'The Land Before Time' to 'Dinosaur' since I haven't seen those cute dinosaurs in a long while. So I don't think it's necessary to talk about 'The Land Before Time' movies at the moment, I just thought I should bring that up, but anyways.

I do have to be honest I was entertained by this movie from the GCI animation and graphics (which I will get to talking about soon) but that didn't create a good enough of a diversion for me to ignore its crappy script, odd characters, and the story that gets in too much of a hurry throughout the entire movie. The story is about a dinosaur named Aladar who gets separated from his family as an egg and moved to a family full of funky-monkeys. When years go by when Aladar is all grown-up he is known as a member of the family even knowing that he's completely different from the funky-monkeys.

One night a meteor shower attacks Aladar's home trying to get his adopted non-dino family and friends to safety, but of course many of the monkeys life's are lost and only Aladar and his main family and friends survive and have to move forward to try to find a new home. As they move forward Aladar sees dinosaurs of his find and different kind for the first time, but Aladar find the dinosaurs in a friendly neighbor. The dinosaurs are in peril of starving to death. They are all lined up in a herd leaded by two nasty dino-brothers trying to find lots of water and a peaceful place that is similar to what people and I think the bible call "The Promised Land". Aladar joins the herd and finds out that the dinosaur must find the land filled with water before more dinosaurs fall behind and before they are attacked by these odd-looking T-Rex's called (I hope I'm spelling this right) the Carnitores.

I didn't like the story for quite a few reasons. The story paces way too fast without slowly down. Everything I just explained about the story isn't as steady as it seems. It all goes so fast. A story like this should have taken it's time, but what I think is that Disney thought they didn't have enough time to make its steady enough to be good from all of the entertaining animation they used their money on, so they just made the story go so fast and expected people to ignore the story and put their money on the animation. That's what I think was going on.

I didn't like how the story was step-up (excluding the pacing) and its characters. In the beginning when Aladar is found by the monkeys I thought to myself right away "Disney is going to use to exact some storyline that 'Tarzan' had. Oh this is going to be exhausting and redundant of Disney." I was thinking that Aladar was going to wonder why he was different from all the other monkeys and soon find dinosaurs and wonder why he never seen them before, but thankfully that wasn't the whole movie, but there is a problem about that too. In the story when he finds the dinosaurs he doesn't wonder why he never seen them before. He just found it as if it was normal for him and truthfully that wasn't normal for the movie to do. That's what really annoyed me.

The animation in 'Dinosaur' is nearly beautiful and close to being breathtaking. As I said before I was entertained by this film from the animation. The dinosaurs look very realistic in this animation. I have to say that the Carnitores are the best looking dinosaurs. The beginning of the movie feels like a thrill ride with the big-bird dinosaur (I don't know how to spell the name of that dinosaur) flying down the river and over the tress, but it only feels like a thrill ride at the beginning. The most entertaining scene in the film is the meteor shower. So the animation is entertaining, but that doesn't keep us from ignoring the flaws this film has.

The people that worked on this movie should have worked more on the storytelling and script. With animation like this will attract people, but when they see how lazy the storytelling and script is they will be very disappointed. That is why Pixar is the best CGI animation studios, but like I said before...'Dinosaur' is no Pixar movie.

Agreed. Go ahead and say that this film basically ripped off the Land Before Time plot. I have to point out that this isn't Disney's first CGI movie. That goes to Chicken Little. Dinosaur used CGI characters with real environments. I'm glad you admire animation as much as I do, but at least do a little research as you write.

Also, your review is redundant at times, sometimes going back to topics you already covered or repeating yourself. Watch for that. I see you have a sore spot for Disney, so prepare yourself now for the gradual decline of Pixar, since Disney is calling the shots now.
