Well as I stated in the above quote this movie is truly a great movie to start off '09 with. Its filled with great direction, and Daniel Craig gives one of the best performances of his career.

Defiance is about three Jewish brothers in Nazi-occupied Poland whi escape into the Belarussian forests, where they become allies with the Soviets and build a village sheltering about 1,000 Jews. This movie has a great storyline not to mention being based off of a true story you have a little bit of an outline to follow. It starts off very nicely with the brothers finding out that there parents were killed. The movie lags a bit in the middle, by going on, and on about things that really have no real relevance to the story. Later though the movie quickly picks up speed again and continues to deliver.

Besides the story the movie is filled with great performances by Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, and yes even Jamie Bell gives a good performance as the second to youngest of the three brothers. Craig really I think deserves most of the praise. It nice to see him doing something more recent other than James Bond but not anything as stupid and retarded as the Golden Compass. He gives a truly glorious performance and I think he really breathes some life into this character.

Well there you have it my review of Defiance is coming to an end. Bottom line is if you want something that will truly entertain you even if you end up checking your watch more than once throught the whole movie. This is the way to go. Something that really moves you and also teaches you about little things in life and how precious they are. And also sets the example for others to come what truly is an act of defiance. Overall: B+
