It's 2006, and the best films of 2005 are being honored. The best picture winner is about to be announced, and up to this point, Crash, a Paul Haggies-directed, low budget illustration of racial tensions that interweaves a large cast of characters(that includes Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Terrence Howard, Thandie Newton, Brenden Fraser, and Matt Dillon) from different backgrounds, has only won two awards: best editing, and best original screenplay(both well deserved). There's no way this film can win best picture, right? Well, it did, and while the choice may be controversial to some when comparing the film to the front runner Brokeback Mountain, Crash is still as engaging and relevant today as it was back then. Here's where I think the Academy got it wrong, though: while Matt Dillon gives a fine performance, I feel Terrence Howard should have been nominated instead for his emotional portrayal of a TV-director struggling with bigotry and his seemingly failing marriage. The film manages to tie several characters and stories together seamlessly (and this is where the award winning editing and writing came in handy), while never losing sight of what it's aiming to accomplish, which could have been easy with such a large cast of characters and storylines. In the end, the film voices a sense of hope and reassurance for the future, while still hinting that there will always be those that are quick to judge. In that sense, Crash is timeless, and should not be missed.

I totally agree with this short review that seems more then a paragrpah, but like the others said its great.
Plus, I've met Terrence Howard and he is weird. Me and my teacher met him in front of a dunkin donuts as he was doing a play on broadway and we asked him to come to school so the class can meet him. What an experience that was. But i agree on your point on him

Plus, me starting with the Oscars was a nice segue into the Terrence Howard bit.

@Moviegeek: I like to introduce some background for the movie before getting into the critiquing aspect. I didn't want to just jump into what I thought of it, even if it was only a paragraph. I developed a good way to do both background and opinions in just a few sentences, so I figured I'd go with it.

@The Narrator: Thanks. I plan on making it a full length review after the judging is over.

Lol, I love how this is an "official review". Even for a paragraph its a still pretty good read. I just disagree with your choice of film.

The latter half of your review is great. First half, about the Oscars, didn't really play into any point you were trying to make.

I know it's not until Saturday we judge, but there's my pick right there.
