It was a cute little movie. It's not really a romantic comedy or a drama, it has a little bit of everything. There are a lot of different types of strong women. It is definitely a "girl movie."

It's mostly about Vianne & her daughter adjusting to life in this little town, but there are so many other characters who have their own lives & stories going on it may have worked better as a tv show than a movie. I say this because all of the other characters are so well-defined that you could watch more of them & at times I wanted to see more of their lives. The movie jumps through time showing us things over the course of a year or so. I've never been a big fan of that type of story-telling, especially when the point is to show change. People change slowly & gradually.

I was surprised that at the "It's a Wonderful Life" scene she doesn't show her emotions, but I then realized that it fits her character. It was a well done scene. Vianne is someone who is always travelling so it reminded me of the Babylon 5 quote "A darkness carried in the heart cannot be cured by moving the body from one place to another." Of course it isn't until she stops running that she realizes this. This is a good date movie but I don't think it deserves all the high praise it received.
