I like Broadway musicals but 15 minutes into this movie I knew I was going to hate it. It was another campy movie. "Why is Renee Zelegger doing such a bad job" I was asking myself? I could barely focus on Queen Latifah's song because I was so annoyed that this was turning into a campy movie. All I could think about was how this movie was not accurately promoted. Nobody called it a musical comedy. No one called it "a campy good time."

Instead of movie reviewers summarizing movies with spoilers they should tell you what kind of movie it is. I thought this would be a serious musical like Dreamgirls. Boy was I wrong. Had I known I never would have bought this DVD. I didn't even bother watching the extras.

The other thing I thought about was the Broadway musical. Why would people spend so much money to see it live? Is it because of all the skinny women dancing in their underwear? Really? That is not enough reason for me to pay close to 100$US a seat to see burlesque-lite with singing. As much as I hate burlesque, I'd rather watch real burlesque: it's cheaper, there's more skin & it's not campy.

@Diaigma I didn't say it was "a bad campy movie" I just said "it's a campy movie" & I hate campy movies. If people like campy musicals, they'll love Chicago. I prefer serious musicals like: Les Miserables, Kiss of The Spider-woman, Next to Normal, West Side Story, Miss Saigon, Rent, The Life, etc. or musical comedies like: Annie Get Your Gun, Wicked, The Scarlet Pimpernel, etc. but I just hate campy stuff like this. (BTW I've seen all of these live on Broadway)

Good review, but it wasn't as bad as you say it is.
