Cars, while an enjoyable film, ends up next to A Bug's Life as one of Pixar's lesser efforts. In typical Pixar fashion, the visuals are gorgeous and the voice acting is first-rate, but there's something weird and off-putting in anthropomorphizing something as inanimate as cars and making them the focus. Toy Story worked because it existed in a world where toys were toys and their use by humans was essential to their existence, but in Cars there aren't even any human characters hinted at. It all makes very little sense. Other complaints I had were how childish the movie seemed at times compared to more complex, mature Pixar fair like Toy Story and the more recent Ratatouille. Also, Pixar films are defined by their originality, and this film borrows its story too closely from the Michael J Fox movie Doc Hollywood.

Still, I did enjoy it, and some clever elements like tractor-tipping were quite humorous. The bottom of the Pixar pool still remains enjoyable entertainment and flawless animation.
