The design is dull and too implausible for words (a woman has the theory that cannibalism does not exist and she can proof it if she visits one lousy village and if it isn't there, this is enough proof that it doesn't exist). But, when she, together with two companions, finds two Americans the story gets more interesting. Specifically because of the sublime performance of Giovanni Lombardo Radice: he plays very well as a greedy sadist who takes pleasure to torture primitives, with as purpose stealing precious gems. However, the film contains a very threatening atmosphere. The revenge of the primitives is disgusting but brought to the screen with very realistic looking gore. One thing: I don't recommend watching the trailer before you watch the movie because almost all killings are shown in it.
The biggest flaw of the movie is the miserable subplot in New York, were we see the policeman looking for the missing persons. These scenes are unnecessary and are there for no reason. They also ruin the atmosphere.
The soundtrack is absolutely not as good as the soundtrack from Cannibal Holocaust, but still quite powerful. I do think that the theme was played during unsuitable moments. (that dramatic music played while those three Americans are just sitting on that boat, WTF?)
