This film gives way for me to feel the drama, passion and struggles in the ballet company. It manages to work in a concept of visualizing things that is like you are in the point of lateral confusion.
Just to add, Portman deserves her Oscar in this film.
Well, I've now watched this movie three times to try and see it from all you 5 star fanatics' point of view. I loved the cinematography (especially the mirror shots), music, lighting, editing were terrific and that's where it ends. I really found the multiple purging scenes, the creep on the bus, and the "fantasy" lesbian scene totally unnecessary and, to be honest, offensive. It took way too much energy to try and decipher what was "real" and what was her paranoia and delusions trying to get the best of her. But, how else do you get guys to pay $20 to see a movie about the strife in the life of a prima-ballerina unless the leading lady is gorgeous, kinky, and totally fing nuts! A man's wet-dream come true! Hate on me if you want, it's only MY OPINION!
Well, its obviously your choice, I think you're just getting hung up on a few, brief scenes that don't detract much from an overall great experience, but that is your loss, not mine.
Supes it sounds like an awful lot of yuck to put up with for the sake of one character well acted and a little bit of ballet. I like to feel a film is worth the effort of going out.
Haven't seen it but read a lot of reviews while I dither. The heroine sounds like good acting and there's a bit of ballet in it - pluses. But it sounds like there's a lot of boring sleaze chucked in to pull in the morons. Self harming YUCK Self starvation YUCK Monstrous visions - from the video clips pretty plastic YUCK Masturbation YAWN YUCK Lesbian scene SO WHAT YUCK
Pity. Could have been a great film about the real strains and drama of ballet. Plenty of amazing stuff there. No need for all the B movie horror and plastic sex.
I'd like to slap the person that gave this 1 star. They clearly don't know great film when they see it. Kinda like the idiot that sat behind me in the theater after the movie ended. "Well, that was 2 hours I'll never get back". I felt like decking him.
