Beowulf: Review By T.Clark

**I'VE ONLY SEEN THE DIRECTOR'S CUT, UNRATED VERSION OF THIS MOVIE**

Robert Zemeckis's Beowulf is a well made picture. The unique use of CGI in this movie is nice to look at, and is even believable. It took ten minutes into the movie for my dad to say "They don't look like real people!" With that said, it feels like more could have been done with it that could have made it an epic masterpiece.

First and foremost, it would have been great to see what this movie would've been like in live-action. I think it would have been amazing, but I give credit to the makers of the film for making an incredibly real looking digitally enhanced movie.

Beowulf is the story of the title character in his journey from becoming myth, to hero, to king. When the king(Anthony Hopkins) offers a reward to whoever can kill the demon Grendel, Beowulf comes along to "slay thier monster." He does so, but it only unleashes the wrath of Grendel's mother(Angelina Jolie).

Beowulf himself is a hero we all love to hate: a classic monster slayer with an ego the size of Texas. But even great heroes can be seduced into lying, especially if it's Angelina Jolie. Speaking of which, what in the hell was the fuss over her "nude" scene. Even the director's cut didn't show any tity. It reminds me more of Ultron in Mighty Avengers: only a sheathe of liquid-metal covering her naughty parts, except in this it's bronze. Her and Beowulf end up bumping uglies when she was supposed to be slain, and when Beowulf is old and king, that choice that we all probably would've made comes to bite him in the ass as his dragon of a son, literally.

The action sequences in the movie are incredible and very entertaining, from Beowulf's battle with Grendel to his battle with his son, the dragon. Grendel's first attack on the town folk is bloody and extremely violent; I loved every minute of it. I have a feeling if this was the version in theatres, it would've been rated R, and so I think this is the version that SHOULD have been in theatres, which I didn't see.

The movie, however, seems rushed, and not complete. Of course, you get the whole story, but for some reason, it feels like I didn't. Overall, though, Beowulf is an exciting film that doesn't manage to become that epic film that will have everyone talking, but does manage to become a unique take on a classic story.
