Truly an amazing animated film, and this is only Part 1
The story written by Bob Goodman was amazing, one of the best things about the film. Adapted from Frank Millers acclaimed graphic novel, the film follows Bruce Wayne who hung up the cape and cowl 10 years ago but is forced out of retirement after being tired of seeing his city under threat from the Mutant Gang and decides to take action. One of the best things about the film is seeing Batman struggles coming back into the crime fighting game and facing men in their prime who are strongr than him. Another thing that I like is how you get that feeling it being in Batman: The Animated Series, like your seeing a continuation of the series in this film and I praise Goodman for staying true to the novel.
The acting was spectacular, best thing about the film, as it puts everyones worrys away and everyone who comes in did amazing voicework and they all deserve credit but I have to give strong praise to Peter Weller, who portrays the 55 year old Bruce Wayne. Weller did an amazing job by playing Bruce as the stone cold, emotional hero we all know and love and he sounded exactly how I would think Kevin Conroy would sound at that age. I also got to give some praise to Gary Anthony Williams as the Mutant Leader, as he sounded just like I thought the Leader would sound when I first read the novel.
The directing done by Jay Oliva was amazing. When I found out that Mr. Oliva was involved in past Batman animated films, such as Year: One, Under The Red Hood and also worked on the upcoming Man of Steel movie, I knew he was the right man for the job and like I said, I couldnt have been happier. Again it was like watch a Batman: TAS film, it was dark and gritty and Im glad Jay Oliva is doing Part 2
The visuals for the film were awesome, like I said it was like watching an episode of Batman: The Animated Series. The whole story was dark and gritty, just like the graphic novel is. I also liked the music of the film, especially in the beginning when it sounded like a 80s techno retro sound.
Overall I gotta give the film 9/10 stars. Like I said, I couldnt have been more happier with the film. They stayed true to Frank Millers acclaimed The Dark Knight Returns novel while at the same time giving it that Batman:TAS feel that us old fans know and love. I definetly recommend this to any Batman fan and to anyone who loves the DC Comics animated film, and when you see an old face return with a smile, youll get excited for Part 2 like I am
