August Rush: Review By Josh

More of a musical fairy tale than a compelling drama, August Rush falls victim to a ridiculous plot that is a leap of faith on its own and worse because of gaps in logic and a general silliness. However, despite that, I honestly really liked this film. Its cast commands presence and likeability, and the Hans Zimmer's innovative score is magical, haunting, and uplifting. Kirsten Sheridan's pacing is oddly noteworthy; at time she feels as though she is directing a music video or a trailer for her own film, but in a way this almost adds to the film's surrealism. While August Rush doesn't always work as a movie, it is a rousing, moving success as a celebration of the visceral, spiritual power of music.
