Well now first of all beginning with the plot....Peter Baynham and Steve Gordon did the writing. Well the movie is a remake of the original in the 1980's and it really didn't payoff and I dunno why a remake was done. I haven't seen the original but about this one, the plot didn't get me. The writers really got things a bit mixed up and they might have revived the original script but still I didn't see the effort. The movie was pale throughout. You have Arthur who needs to be taught some manners and when things don't work out then he is forced to marry as per his mother's choice and then our beloved Arthur falls in love. The script seemed better at first but it didn't really fit well as it had been placed.
I believe the cast made the script look even more pathetic although the script could have been better. The cast selection was okay, I mean you had names like Jennifer Garner, Nick Nolte, Helen Mirren and Russell Brand along with others so I kinda was expecting more from it especially when RB was playing Arthur. Russell has always been a natural actor and that's what I like about him. He makes his work look so easy that it really seems as if the character really is a part of his personality. But Arthur was more of a disappointment, the role didn't suit him at some points it was like he was only doing half the character so it was a bad choice for Russell to be a part of it. Helen Mirren is a senior actor and she did what the role demanded. She was a good choice. Greta Gerwig was terrible and it's the first time I've seen her on screen. The girl was putting no effort what so ever and it was really her part which really contributed to make the film dull, Greta you can't act! She was a bad choice. Jennifer Garner was just okay with her role, not what she usually does. The role was okay with her. Nick Nolte and the supports were good in their own domain. The overall cast performance was just average.
Jason Winer thought of doing the remake. Jason you might have thought you could have done justice with Arthur in the remake but sorry to say you haven't. Jason you could've picked some other movie but why try your hands on something which has already failed miserably in the past? Well since you planned to make it, The film isn't worth for a second chance. Even though you picked up a good cast for a start but still bad script made it ineffective. I haven't seen any other films of yours so I can't say much.
Summing it up......The original failed miserably so there's no point in seeing the remake. Russell Brand fans would be disappointed. So give it a pass.......
