American Gangster: Review By alljack

My expectations for this movie were high, but they were not met.

I expected a lot from this movie. Ridley Scott is a favorite director of mine, the cast that he used has been excellent in other efforts, ane the subject is an appealing one. So how did this movie end up being a disappointing plodder? The direction was remote, perfunctory, and lackadaisical. The cast was wasted on a trite and predictable script. The forward propulsion was pre-packaged and auto-piloted. I really wanted to like this, but mostly I didn't. Sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets you.

I felt the same way after leaving the theatre upon seeing this the first time. The more I watch it though, the more I like it. Nice review nevertheless, short and to the point.
