Romantic comedies are formulaic as a rule, but this one tries so little it fails to even meet its own low expectations. Ben Stiller plays a take off his character in There's Something About Mary, only what the film passes off as his endearing qualities come off to the viewer as simply obnoxious and sort of creepy. He had better watch himself or he could become the next Matthew McConaughey, playing the same annoying character in every film.

How the writer of truly funny films like Zoolander and Meet the Parents turns out something this crappy is beyond me. Hank Azaria and Phillip Seymour Hoffman are watchable (obviously), but nothing else is.
