All About My Mother: Review By FrontRowHoe

Almovodar tells a twisted tale of sexuality, love, loss and all things that complicate life. "Todo sobri mi madre" is where my love affair with Almovaodar began.

You may have seen my note in the sidebar about my excitement around Perdro Almodovar's new film that is releasing in November (Los abrazos rotos). "Todo sobre mi madre" (All About My Mother) is the film in which my love for Almodavar was sparked.

Manuela (Cecilia Roth) is a Spanish nurse who's life turns to tragedy after her only son, 17 year-old Esteban is hit by a car after chasing an actress for an autograph after her performance. After his death, Manuela drives to Barcelona to find Esteban's father, who doesn't know of his son's existence. His son was neither aware of his father's lifestyle as a trany-prostitute.

Manuela meets with her old friend Agrado (another trany-prostitute), in hopes of finding Lola. Along the way, she also meets Rosa (Penelope Cruz) who is a nun that works the battered prostitutes at a shelter. Manuela becomes Rosa's caretaker during her pregnancy. Yes, the nun is pregnant. The story gets more interesting from there, but I am not going to ruin it for you.

Almovodar tells a twisted tale of sexuality, love, loss and all things that complicate life. "Todo sobri mi madre" gets my top spot for a Spanish Film. 5 stars.
