Once upon a time, there was a young visionary director called Tim Burton who lent his unique style to such modern fables as "Beetlejuice" and "Edward Scissorhands"

Then thing stook a turn for the "Not-so-Good" when Burton did a character study about the art of film-making, "Ed Wood".

Directing Ed Wood", Tim was accompanied by an unusual acting talent called Johnny Depp, an off-kilter leading man who lent his remarkable physical grace to every character he portrayed.

Together, they joined the ranks of Scorsese/De Niro and Herzog/Kinski as one of the seminal actor-director teams in the history of cinema.

Alas, the lure of fat paychecks and exhibitionist number-one spots at the box office got the better of them, and as they slipped into middle-age, their collaborations gradually became stale and soulless as they sacrificed depth for marketability. Eventually the gods of world cinema banished Depp and Burton to the land of sell-outs where they were forced to contemplate their insatiable greed for the rest of their days. The end...or was that simply a wonderful dream?

Now we have the soulless "Alice in Wonderland"!

I was really expecting so much, and got so little.

SIMPLE:

Johnny Depp - It was "Just" Johnny Depp playing a character. His Mad Hatter was boring ...no real backstory ...noting to walk away with. His Mad Hatter was more .... unemotional & unimpressed being in the film.

Mia Wasikowska - No screen presence .. a forgettable face

Anne Hathaway - Seemed bored. Again she didn't stand out. Who is her agent!? Why does she choose roles (I.E.: Get Smart (2008) that don't highlight her as an actress. She seemed very lost, like she didn't understand what she ws directed to do by Tim.

Helena Bonham Carter - The only thing worth watching in this mess. I wish she had more screen time. I woke up when she came on screen.

Tim Burotn should hve made a film just a film about the life/times of the Red Queen.

Final Rating: D-
