A Walk To Remember could have fallen victim to all the genre conventions but manages success due to its genuine sincerity. While it does play like a typical Nicholas Sparks tale I consider this (along with The Notebook) to be the best adaptation of his work. While at first seeming spiritually heavy-handed it's really about Shane West's character change, not his conversion (something the film never even claims occurs). It's romantic to the point it will turn some viewers sick, but the characters are written with consistency and sincerity to themselves which helps elevate the film to more than what it otherwise could be.

The score is nice as well.
