Ninety-five percent of the time, a horror-remake will turn into becoming a living nightmare for us audience members. The makers of 2009's "Friday the 13th" reboot, which was slightly better than this, take Wes Craven's classic 1980 dream-slasher to a level it was never meant to be brought to. Jackie Earle Haley, who is an honest-to-God great actor in my opinion, just doesn't click when it comes down to him playing the famous killer--Freddy. I remember when this movie was in production, and I heard that it was possible for Billy Bob Thornton to play the role of Freddy, does anyone else agree that would have been a better choice? I just feel like Haley was soppy and cast poorly for the role and I didn't like the idea of making Freddy darker and having a much more serious tone. That just made this movie much more lame and harder to enjoy. Watching Freddy kill without a few laughs pinched in is like watching a cat chase a laser. Most of the kills in the movie felt like updates of the classic original, so nothing ever felt new or shiny but I can give the movie some credit for an awesome, brutal opening sequence that sadly led to misfortune.

@corey: Darker was Craven's aim with #1. Hence why he claimed all the sequels sucked in the first scene of "Scream." For his own sequel #7 didn't really count as it was more of a doc*mentary feature. I however recall being the only moviewebber to diss the "F13" remake when it came out. Near positive reviews from everyone else. And this one paragraph review thing is fitting for such bad films. Though I think I squeezed 4 or 5 outta "F13." Nice one.

Well put in one paragraph @corey and I know these youtube friends of mine that were getting sick of horror remakes that they decided to make an awkward dub to Friday the 13th (they do this a lot). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awS27pKJy6Y
