It is sorta feeding off Toy Story's glory by showing the secret life of something only kids pay attention to. This time the toy's are replaced by bugs. The reason this is so low on my list is because the two main characters are the most annoying in Pixar history!
The ant colony's leader, Princess Ada (a very annoying Julia Louis Dreyfuss), is making sure everything is in order for the grasshoppers to arrive. The grasshoppers take an offering of food made by the ants, and in turn offer them protection. But an inventor ant named Flick (a very annoying Dave Foley) accidentally knocks all of the offering into a stream, and the grasshopper's tell the ants that they have until winter to regain the food.
Flick gets this idea of getting warriors to fight the grasshoppers. He ends up finding a group of warriors, but it turns out that they are a band of circus bugs, and hilarity ensues.
Now, here's where Pixar magic settles in, the princess and Flick are annoying as hell, but these circus bugs are some of the funniest in Pixar history, the funniest being a male ladybug voiced by Dennis Leary, and a pair of twin rolly pollie bugs. They really just steal the show, they are all just hilarious.
Now if you add up the combined star ratings, and divide them by 4, you get 4.25, right in between 4 and 4.5. I am giving this a 4 just to show how annoying those two ants are, they just sorta ruin the movie. The visuals, directing, and story are all really good though, just to let you know.
Overall, a pretty good Pixar movie, just not the best.
Grade: 88% B+
