Tommy Hart is a law student before he enlists in World War II. During combat he is shot down over Europe and placed in a POW camp. When a black prisoner is accused of murdering a fellow soldier, Hart comes to his aid and defends him in the courtroom. The litigation transfixes the Germans and works in favor of the American POWs, who use the case as a diversion to help them escape.
