A nice, little romance film… But only that.

The story is about a guy who falls in love at first sight. Ok, yea… Not too original, and that’s what carries you through an hour and a half, which is fine. I’ve seen it done before, and now it’s been done again. There is enough material. In fact, too much material. Remember when I said it was lacking? Well, it was lacking in the department of- When they break up, not only is it completely random, and out of nowhere, but I really didn’t give a rat’s ass. I felt sorry for the guy though, because Zoey Deschenal’s character was kind of a bitch. She gets mad at him for like, the stupidest reason ever, then poof!! They hate each other. Weird, but ok. After that, it gets steady again. But that whole part nade no sense, and it lost points. That along with the few bad, stupid horrible, disgusting, gay, f*ggoty, sick, unnesciary (spelling???) dick jokes. Those were, well, what I just said. But anyhow, you might already know from the trailer, if not that, the beginning of the movie, that they don’t stay together. Their break-up is clearly stated, so there’s no suspense. I guess it was just trying to be different. Next time, don’t let us know from the opening scene, please.
As far as acting goes, good. I mean, it’s what you’d expect from a movie like this. Not above, or below, but still solid performances. Zoey Deschenel does great, and is very likable. The guy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was good, but a tad dull. But that’s just in a few spots. I noticed to see Deschenel being all perky and he was there… Just there. Overall, he’s good though.
The director is Marc Webb. Damn, that name sounds familiar, but I really can’t place a movie with it. So help, if you can. He did great, so it wasn’t hit fault the writing was rubbish. I give him credit for making a movie with… OK writing good. I liked how he made the movie dark when when they weren’t together, but bright and happy when they were. This is a style I’ve seen in other flicks, but I like it! It really adds to the whole effect of the film itself.
So, for all this review, I’ve been listing all the things I didn’t like about it, which may make it sound like a bad movie. But I gave it a 3.5, so obviously I did get some form of enjoyment out of it. But I think mostly the reason why I gave it a 3.5, is because I’m a sucker for romance flicks,
I say- see it. But don’t pay much. If it’s at an expensive theater, wait for the DVD. It’s a nice little rental.

Sorry. I now know what you meant by the opening scene. The "suspense" was to be "Why did they break up?" not "Are they going to make it?"
