It's awesome in the best sense of the word.
Long before it was ever considered "acceptable" for an "older woman" to have a "real" romance with a younger, Ior "much younger") man, there was this film recounting, (even fictionally), the romance between Peter Latham and Ann Stanley, (played by Edward Albert, Jr., and Liv Ullman respectively).
Peter meets Ann in Greece; her car had broken down and he gave her a lift. Dinner followed, and then, romance began! Feeling like she's had her "last fling" ever, she leaves early the next morning to get back to her "real life" in New York; (she's a high-profile Interior Designer with a grown daughter, a mother who isn't quite a "grown-up", and an ex-husband played VERY well by a non-dancing, non-singing Gene Kelly!)
The real mayhem begins (again!), when Ann's daughter comes home one evening and announces that she's got a date with a friend of a friend.... And, WHO should be at the door for the young lady? Yep! Peter!
When he sees Ann, Peter questions her closely and you can see Ann literally trying to squirm out of giving any direct answers to any of his questions!
He took their time together in Greece very seriously, and he wants to know why she would be so Puritanically inclined now that she's back in the "real world"!
Thought provoking, eye-brow raising and VERY funny in all the right places!
Liv Ullman, (formerly directed by the legendary Ingmar Bergman!), is a most unlikely "cougar", and Edward Albert, Jr. a most decidedly un-cub-like "cub"!
