A well-executed albeit thinly plotted western, Yuma succeeds because of Mangold's capability of letting his actors carry the film. It works as an action flick as well as a finely scripted character drama about justice and reputation, but Bale and Crowe, two of this generation's finest actors, are the main reason to see this. Ben Foster steps nicely into another great role as a villain, further proving himself worthy of working with the great actors he's sharing the screen with. And while it lacks the depth of films like Unforgiven and The Proposition, it is a great film.
