Michael Caine has signed on to star in Interstellar for director Christopher Nolan. The project marks their sixth collaboration together, following Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, Inception, and last year's The Dark Knight Rises.

No details were given regarding Michael Caine's character, but he joins a cast that includes Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and yesterday's addition, Jessica Chastain. The story centers on a voyage into outer space that tests the boundaries of science and technology. The plot is said to be based on the scientific theories of Kip S. Thorne, who believes that wormholes actually exist, and can be used for time travel.

Christopher Nolan is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with his brother, Jonathan Nolan. The director is also producing alongside Emma Thomas and Lynda Obst. No production schedule was given.

Michael Caine can next be seen in the action-thriller Now You See Me, opening in theaters May 31.

Interstellar was released November 7th, 2014 and stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Bill Irwin, Casey Affleck, Mackenzie Foy, John Lithgow. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

@thedude-abides -- I like the QT and Samuel Jackson collaboration; it always works. But, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp? That's a little much.

Wouldn't be a Nolan film without Mr. Caine.

About time this news was announced I say! :) I mean, I had no idea that Caine was involved, but when I read the headline, I was like, "Well, duh, already knew this" kind of thing.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Couldn't have said it better.

Though a fine addition to any cast, I'd like to see Nolan change it up a bit rather than always reverting back to using his regulars, but that's a qualm I have with any director, a la QT and Sam Jackson, etc.

I like how secretive this project is. It makes the anticipation all the greater, as it seems with this statement about featuring Kip Thorne's wormhole theories that Nolan is returning to his roots.

He's probably going to play a typecasted, insignificant role, but whatever. It's a good way to promote a cast.
