Mel Gibson has reportedly signed on to play the villain in The Expendables 3, according to an unconfirmed report.

As you may recall, franchise star Sylvester Stallone revealed in April that he wanted Mel Gibson to direct this action sequel, before landing Australian director Patrick Hughes (Red Hill) later that month. No details have been given regarding this villainous character yet.

Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes and Milla Jovovich are confirmed to star alongside Sylvester Stallone. Stallone also expressed interest last month in bringing on stars of The Raid: Redemption, although no specific names were mentioned.

Sylvester Stallone wrote the screenplay for The Expendables 3, with no story details revealed just yet. We reported last month that Lionsgate has set an August 15, 2014 release date, but it is not known when shooting will begin.

Mel Gibson last starred in Get the Gringo, and he will next be seen in Robert Rodriguez's sequel Machete Kills.

The Expendables 3 was released August 15th, 2014 and stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture. The film is directed by Patrick Hughes.

Awesome. Does this means that Mel Gibson will die in the movie? HOORAY! He deserves it for that awful Passion Of The Christ movie (yes, I despise that movie with a passion).

Gibson can now have fun, now he can revel in these movies, show his meaty chops and self referential needs, yes in public eyes hes been a twat, so as to redeem hes not lowering himself as @narrator likes to think, hes going for roles he thinks will best suit him, roles that will perhaps get him back into the medias and public's mind frame that, he isn't a bad guy, hes human who makes mistakes, and to go into movies that revitalize careers this is a move and a half

A rather solid choice to pick Mad Max and Martin Riggs as the villain, personally I would of tried for Danny Trejo or Tom Cruise, they both fit the Action movie requirement and would make good villains as well.
