G.I. Joe Retaliation 3D director Jon M. Chu is in talks to direct Matched for Walt Disney Pictures. The filmmaker replaces David Slade (30 Days of Night), who was in talks to direct back in September, although a deal was never finalized.

The project is based on Ally Condie's young adult novel that is set in a future where the government controls every aspect of people's lives, from what they read, what to believe in, and who they should fall in love with. The story centers on a young woman who is set up with an arranged romance, which she turns down to forge her own path.

Michele Mulroney and Kieran Mulroney (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) wrote the adapted screenplay, with Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot producing through their Offspring Entertainment company. No production schedule was released.

The project marks a reunion for Jon M. Chu and Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot, who produced Step Up 2 the Streets and Step Up 3D, both of which Jon M. Chu directed.

Matched is in development . The film is directed by Jon M. Chu.
