Director Joss Whedon is putting the finishing touches on Marvel's the Avengers, which kicks off the summer movie season May 4. While the ensemble features an entire team of superheroes, the filmmaker revealed that most of the story will be told through the perspective of Chris Evans' Captain America character.

Here's what he had to say below.

"I set out with a very simple problem: There is no reason for these people to be in the same movie. So that's what my movie has to be about. So much of the movie takes place from Steve Rogers' (Chris Evans) perspective, since he's the guy who just woke up and sees this weird ass world. Everyone else has been living in it."

Marvel's the Avengers also stars Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo as The Incredible Hulk, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and Tom Hiddleston as the villainous Loki.

Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

@hiplop well enjoy the Hulk in this, because he wont have another solo film for a while, Marvel is going to turn him into a supporting member =(

Good. Capt. is easily the coolest Avenger.

I'm fine with this. I thought Rogers was a really well-done character, and it makes sense to have the audience experience the world through his eyes.

I think it makes more sense than Iron Man's P.O.V. I don't know if I can get any more excited for this movie!

I would of thought that it would be better if it was from Iron Man's perspective or from Thor's perspective, not from Captain America's perspective.

Fantastic. Cap is my favorite avenger and making it his perspective will make the movie stronger.

I like this, but then, I always had faith Whedon would take it in a solid direction.

Makes sense, though I don't think it needs to be from anyone's perspective in particular.

Too bad, I always thought Captain America was fun, but Chris Evans was kind of bland. Why couldn't it be from Iron Man's perspective? I always like Robert Downey Jr.'s character the most.
