Mark Strong Hints at Lex Luthor Role in 'Man of Steel 2'

A rumor is spreading that 'Breaking Bad''s Bryan Cranston is also a top contender for the villain role in this upcoming Superman sequel.

Mark Strong hints at being cast as Lex Luthor in Man of Steel 2
After the bombshell announcement at Comic-Con 2013 that Man of Steel 2 will feature both Batman and Superman, many fans seemed to forget that Man of Steel strongly hinted that Lex Luthor may be popping up in the sequel. Actor Mark Strong was rumored to be the top choice for the villain back in June, and when he was asked about the rumor recently, the actor gave an intriguing response.

"All I can say is... watch this space."

Has Mark Strong already been cast as Lex Luthor? And, now that Batman and Superman are included in this superhero sequel, how does Lex Luthor fit in? If the actor has in fact been cast, it will be an interesting choice since he previously played the DC villain Sinestro in Green Lantern.

In addition, Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston has also been rumored to be up for this coveted role, but it isn't known if any offers have been made yet, since David S. Goyer is still writing the script.

Production is scheduled to begin next year, with Zack Snyder directing and Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane reprising their roles from Man of Steel.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice comes to theaters March 25th, 2016 and stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

@themoviefanatic Yes, certianly looks that way. I'm okay with that too since GREEN LANTERN wasn't well recieved and if they aren't going to make a sequel and use him in that, may as well use him for MAN OF STEEL 2 as Lex which I think he would be perfect for.

@gumperman The fact that Mark Strong might play Lex Luthor in Man of Steel 2, leads me to believe that Warner Bros wants us to forget about Green Lantern and his role in Green Lantern as Sinestro.

I preferred Evans as Johnny than Captain America, I still think that first film was weak since it was rushed.

@gumperman Cranston would be a different take, but still keep that endeavored vibe, Strong is too much like the stereotype of who Luthor is, that's what i find and it would seem weird as he is Sinestro and it is a weird one concerning Evans, but that's nothing to do with, part and parcel and now Evans is Cap and if Marvel do get the rights back for FOUR and they do want a team up, its set in stone then haaahahah see what i mean but i do agree with you on that, i think Evans to put it clearly is weak as Captain America.

Strong would be a great choice, but it is weird that he was already Sinestro. If he wasn't, then I would say he would be perfect! It's like when Chris Evans was cast as Captain America when he was already in Fantastic Four. I know that neither movie has to do with one and another, but they really couldn't find someone else to play Captain America? I mean I like Evans as the Cap, but it's still weird to me. Cranston would not be a good choice for Lex Luthor. If not Strong, then someone of his demeanor, because we need a terrifying billionaire type presence in Lex Luthor.

Don't really get how him saying "watch this space" leads to him being a contender for Lex Luthor, but a good choice none the less if he does get the job.

i love the idea of Bryan Cranston but if i had the choice i would cast Daniel Day-Lewis, or someone as good as Michael Shannon, someone who can make a performance as greatest as Heath Ledger's Joker

Here's the thing though, I've said it once and I'll say it again: this entire movie has probably already been cast and written, we just don't know jack about it because the studio wasn't let anyone know anything yet.

This would mean the Green Lantern film gets ignored. Which is good because i dont want Green Lantern to do with the MoS universe...
