Twilight star Kristen Stewart has landed the lead role in Lie Down in Darkness, an adaptation of William Styron's novel directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart).

The actress will play Peyton Loftis, a young woman at the center of a dysfunctional family in 1950s Virginia. Peyton's beauty has caused her mother to become jealous and hateful towards her, while the woman's alcoholic father lusts after her. She also has a crippled sister named Maudie. It is said that the production was eyeing Jennifer Lawrence, although she will be busy shooting The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and X-Men: Days of Future Past back-to-back.

The project has been in development for years under producer Jeff Sharp (A Home at the End of the World, Proof). It isn't known if a screenwriter is attached to adapt the novel, or when production may begin.

Lie Down in Darkness is in development and stars Kristen Stewart. The film is directed by Scott Cooper.

@2movieguys@mcleve02@dan1 -- It happened once, and I strongly doubt it'll happen again.

@thedude1 She is not unattractive, but she's not approaching my definition of beautiful in any way nor do I think she's anywhere near "classically" beautiful. There is also no way you're going to convince me that anyone thinks she is the "fairest of them all" in a land that includes Charlize Theron. Throw in the fact that she's played essentially the same character in every movie I've seen her in and she really does nothing for me.

I mean she only looks like a 16 year old boy who tries to look like a chick......if you're into that sort of thing. And a good actress? Ya if ur into the same depressed, emo, wooden kinda characters with issues she can only play.

@nburgmei - THANK YOU! That's what I was thinking. First Snow White and now this, Hollywood keeps pushing this her as the Beauty, but in my opinion there are a lot of better looking actresses for these roles.
