J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot production company will be bringing robots to a much different time in a new film project. Heat Vision Blog is reporting that Paramount has secured the rights to the graphic novel Boilerplate: History's Mechanical Marvel for Abrams to produce.

It was said that the book by Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett is a hybrid of a graphic novel and a picture book and tells the tale of history's first robot who fought alongside Teddy Rooosevelt, traveled to the South Pole and even was involved in the silent film business in a story that spans the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The site reports that Guinan originally pitched the character idea through a website 11 years ago when it started to take on new life when people started believing this robot actually existed.

A screenwriter or director haven't been attached as of yet, but we'll certainly keep you posted with any further updates on Boilerplate: History's Mechanical Marvel as soon as we have more information.
