Fresh off his starring role in this Christmas' Django Unchained, actor Jamie Foxx is in early negotiations to play the lead villain in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, with all signs pointing to Electro as the character.

While Jamie Foxx's interest in a role for this sequel has been confirmed, the villain has not. Many believe that Electro was the mysterious figure featured in The Amazing Spider-Man's end credits. And Foxx himself teased the character with a Halloween Tweet just moments ago.

This would be the first time that Electro has ever appeared on screen. The character first appeared in 1964's The Amazing Spider-Man #9. Here is Marvel's official description of the character.

"Maxwell Dillon has been one of Spider-Man's most frequent and enduring adversaries, often fighting alongside some of the more powerful masterminds in the web-head's rogues gallery, rather than creating intricate plots of his own. Raised by his overprotective mother, after his father abandoned them, Max had ambitions of being an electrical engineer. However, after being convinced by his mother that he was not smart enough to pursue such a career, Max instead reluctantly took a job as a lineman for an electric company. While repairing a power line still connected to its spool, Max was struck by lightning. Instead of being killed, the freak accident caused a mutagenic change in his nervous system, allowing him to generate and control vast amounts of electricity. After creating a colorful costume, Max turned to a life of crime as Electro."

The Amazing Spider-Man trilogy is moving towards the death of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). Electro does not play a role in her death in the comic books. It is unlikely, however, that if Jamie Foxx is not playing Electro, he would be playing the Green Goblin.

Do you like Jamie Foxx as Electro? Who else might he be playing? Are there a lot of black Spider-Man villains? Should Electro be black? It worked for Nick Fury. Let us know what you think...

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released May 2nd, 2014 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Felicity Jones, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx It has just as many thumbs up so that point doesnt matter. Its all mixed opinion. No one can say anything till we see how the movie develops the character and the performance is shown

@corey -- Because he's unfitting? You know the answer to that question. You don't have to read comics to realize that Jamie Foxx just doesn't fit. It'd be like the casting of Michael Clarke Duncan as The Kingpin for "Daredevil", and we all know how that turned out. And judging by the thumbs down, there are others in agreement.

@mcleve02 Thank you. I too believe in Jamie Foxx. These people actually think they'll throw him in green tights with a bolt over his face. No. I bet Electro in the film will wear a black leather jacket, and just f*ck sh*t up with his powers. Foxx can do that.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx How is that laughable? Do you even read comics, Nick? In the comics, Electro is corny and a little too cheesy for a serious-toned flick. They'll have to make some changes to the character, and if they do that, Foxx can embody the character well.

@corey -- If the film is following the comic books, Jamie Foxx as Electro is nothing short of laughable. Might as well cast Robert Pattinson as Batman.

I'm not sure what to think of this news. Maybe they will end up casting someone else as Electro, sometime in the near future for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Call me crazy, but I would have loved for his name to be tossed around for John Stewart AKA Green Lantern. Still I'm cool with this and and he has my vote. Was not a fan of TASM, but with this news I have hope for #2.

Why are people bashing Jamie Fox? He's a really good, but not great actor and been in some good films like Collateral, Any Given Sunday, Ray, and Miami Vice. Is he perfect no after all he was in Law Abiding Citizen and the god awe full Stealth, but the man is a talented actor and I do think he would be a good fit for Electro.

Webb is a decent director, just not for this character.

Not a big fan of Fox but when I do, he does deliver. He's just not right to be a supervillian.

@andrew-thompson when Raimi was involved he wanted Bruce to be Mysterio.

Tweets shouldn't be aloud to hire actors, unless it's sending links of audition video's.

How abut Jeremy Irons as Mysterio ? and Bruce campbell as electro ? how about bringing Rhino inas a powerhouse villain ?

    2 years agoby @andrew-thompsonFlag

@narrator The Mysterio missions were even the best part of the video games! I would be all over that myself!

But seriously, these posts make me laugh... "He is a great actor, but not Electro." Come on, he IS a great actor... seriously I can not understand why someone would think differently. The man has played in just about every form of film and character and nailed his roles, so why wouldn't he be able to adapt and knock out another role. The race thing shouldn't matter... look at Avengers... Fury was a white guy in the comics and they casted Samuel Jackson... and after seeing him do the role, no one else was meant for it... People said the same crap when Heath Ledger was first announced as the Joker before the TDK released... "Knights Tale boy as The Joker Hell No!" (remembers back to the old days of movieweb) And now everyone praises what he did. I hope Jamie Foxx comes out and does the same thing...

@narrator yes he is more or less a backer- this is the problem i have with current superhero films- when villians are involved its a huge torrent but Spiderman grows as the hero through his sidelines nad escapades with wannabe badasses- why cant there not be seminal short term villains a showcase of that when a villain arrives its not just this one big predominant huger emotional ride- like the series- one are villains saved to be centre piece- I know overloads of villains do not work but that's because in Spiderman 3 they try to conflict all three villains to have personnel tie ins with Peters psyche.
