Jamie Foxx confirms interest in playing Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2
On November 1st, it was slyly announced that Jamie Foxx is being eyed by Sony Pictures to play the villain Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The actor himself teased this news on his personal Twitter account that same day, and director Marc Webb confirmed the news later that week.

Now, Jamie Foxx is openly talking about this important role, which he confirms he is pursuing. The Academy Award-winning actor has not officially signed on to play Electro, whom many believe made an appearance during the end credit sequence of The Amazing Spider-Man. But he is excited about taking on this character, none the less.

Here is his official statement, where he states that he is taking on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 solely to make his daughter happy.

"I have a little daughter, 4 years old, and what's crazy is like, this past year she had a birthday where Spider-Man was the theme. I haven't sprung it on her yet, but she will go crazy! Fingers crossed it all works out."

Not to race bait, but while many speculate that the villain standing in The Lizard's jail cell at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man. is, in fact, Electro, it must be noted that this shadowy character is clearly a caucasian male. They did not go back and correct this on the Blu-ray that was released last week. This either means that the villain isn't Electro, or that they will be correcting this with CGI somewhere down the road. The timeline of the home video release and the news of this casting seems to indicate they knew what they were doing, though... So don't be surprised to find out there is another villain in the mix here.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was released May 2nd, 2014 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Colm Feore, Felicity Jones, Paul Giamatti, Sally Field. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

@bawnian-dexeus Lizard could at least be seen as frightening. Electro is just so... silly.

@therealGoku I realize that, I just like them to stick to the comics as much as possible. I dont care about race, just he dosnt seen like he would fit in a comic book universe as a actor. And his passion to play the part is non existent, other than just making his daughter happy.

I would like to see Electro in the next film, it would be nice to see other Spiderman villians in the films. Villians like Hobgoblin, Jackal, Kraven the Hunter, Vulture, Carnage, they all could be cool to see. I still wanna see Green Goblin and Doc Ock in the series

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Foxx. But nothing about this screams "fantastic sequel." He's too serious of an actor for something like this. Plus, Electro is so far over the top that placing him in this world will bring nothing but laughs. Remember Sandman?

He may be a good pick. I think if they go with the Max Dillon version found in The Gauntlet arc, they can take away a lot of the cheesiness from the character.

I think he would be good for another character however he's been confirmed as Electo. A certain someone that helps spidey once in a while.

@fanboy they've done this time and time again. Bane runs off venom but that wasn't a problem for the latest batman movie. They change characters all the time. Or is the problem for you about race??? -___-

I don't mind seeing Jamie foxx as electro at all but my question is will that be enough for a villain? I kinda feel like we need more

there will clearly be a secondary villain in the second installment. They are currently searching to cast Harry Osbourne, and i feel like the Osbourne's will have a puppeteer type role in TASM2 Setting up the Goblin as the main villain in the 3rd... just my opinion though

@fanboy Someone with the constant intensity of light always on their skin, such as electro has, would be quiet dark. It's like he's laying under a 24hr tanning bed. Why shouldn't he be black. Makes more sense in the reality of the situation.

  21. fanboy

He dosnt deserve this role, sense the only reason he wants it is to make his daughter happy. Plus hes black, and Electro is white

I gotta agree, not only was the guy in Lizard's cell caucasian, but he was also clearly Osbourne... Plus, isn't Green Goblin the one who kills Gwen Stacy (who supposedly will die in this one?)
