IFC Films has slapped James Gunn's upcoming micro-budgeted superhero comedy Super with the coveted debut date of April 1st. That's right, it will be released on April Fool's Day!

The movie stars Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon, and Michael Rooker. The plot follows Frank (Rainn Wilson), an average guy who transforms himself into the superhero "The Crimson Bolt" after his wife Sarah (Liv Tyler) hooks up with a smooth-talking drug dealer, Jacques (Kevin Bacon). What Frank lacks in superpowers, he makes up for with a trusty wrench in his one-man war on crime. But every superhero needs a sidekick. Enter Libby (Ellen Page), a cute psychopath working at the local comic book store. Transforming into "Boltie", Libby teams up with Frank to take Jacques down. From the surprising imagination of writer-director James Gunn (Slither) comes Bolt and Boltie, a crazed crime fighting duo for the XBox generation. They're here to save the day, or at least to beat you up.

Super premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it garnered rave reviews and was quickly acquired by IFC Films.

Super was released April 1st, 2011 and stars Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon, Michael Rooker, Andre Royo, Sean Gunn, Stephen Blackehart. The film is directed by James Gunn.

After seeing the over-violent clip for this, I will pass. I wasted my money once on The Rocker. It won't happen again.

I hope Gunn nails it this time... I love the idea and i am a huge fan of Page and Wilson so i have high hopes. James Gunn has a crazy imagination so i am crossing my fingers on this one.

Ed Douglas is a certified lunatic on loan from Bellvue. Especially if he thinks he owns a release date. He's just mad because no one wants to look at his ugly site. Can't believe he is using Movieweb as a way to troll for readers on Thanksgiving. What a sad, lonely, pathetic man. Is he mad because IFC sent Movieweb a coffee mug yesterday?

Please stop stealing stories from ComingSoon.net and SuperHeroHype. This is outright plagiarism, which last time I checked is frowned upon in any industry, but definitely when it comes to journalism.

If it's going to be anything like Super Capers, I'm not gonna see it.

I'm going to have to see this just because Kevin Bacon and Michael Rooker are in it. Haven't seen them in much movies at all lately.
