Jai Courtney Joins ‘Divergent’ as Eric, Leader of the Dauntless Faction

The ‘A Good Day to Die Hard’ star takes the lead in director Neil Burger’s adaptation of the Veronica Roth novel.

A Good Day to Die Hard star Jai Courtney has signed on to play the integral role of Eric in the adaptation Divergent.

The story is based on the Veronica Roth novel of the same name, that depicts a futuristic America that is divided into five factions: selflessness (Abnegation), peacefulness (Amity), honesty (Candor), bravery (Dauntless), and intelligence (Erudite). Each citizen must choose which trait they want to devote the rest of their lives to, at the age of 16.

Jai Courtney portrays the leader of the Dauntless tribe Eric, who is described in the book as having multiple facial piercings. He serves as one of the primary antagonists for Shailene Woodley's Beatrice "Tris" Prior, who struggles with the Dauntless initiation when she makes a powerful discovery about her hidden strength.

Neil Burger is directing from an adapted screenplay by Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman). It isn't known when production will begin.

Divergent was released March 21st, 2014 and stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ashley Judd, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Tony Goldwyn. The film is directed by Neil Burger.
