Is Cillian Murphy Back as the Scarecrow in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’?

The actor behind Jonathan Crane in ‘Batman Begins’ is rumored to have been on the set of Christopher Nolan’s third and final Bruce Wayne adventure.

The Dark Knight Rises continues production in Los Angeles this week, and there are rumors that the Scarecrow has been spotted on set.

Shooting took place at L.A.'s Union Station on Wednesday, which doubled for a Gotham City courthouse. One of the scenes being shot features Gary Oldman's Jim Gordon and Marion Cotillard's Amanda Tate, who are forced to see a mysterious judge. Take a look at the description of this scene below, which reveals Cillian Murphy's return as Jonathan Crane a.k.a. Scarecrow.

It appears that exile means walking a dangerous frozen river on the outskirts of Gotham. Which would coincide with the LA River scene filmed with Gordon and his men tip toeing awkwardly in the leaked video.

Oh P.S.

Judge's identity: JONATHAN F#CKIN CRANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cillian Murphy is back with a bang!"

There have been other reports that Cillian Murphy was spotted on the set this week, so it seems the Scarecrow may indeed be back... but as a judge? We'll have to wait and see how this storyline plays out when The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters on July 20.

You can Click Here! for a full description of the scenes shot in Union Station this week.

The Dark Knight Rises was released July 20th, 2012 and stars Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

I love how they're all "ake a look at the description of this scene below" all formally and then it turns into "JONATHAN F#CKIN CRANE" with so many exclamation points it could make even a rabid fangirl laugh out loud. Pure gold, people. Pure gold.

I like that set-up too. Veeery intriguing. I like the idea of Crane toying with people again. His part in TDK was so tiny. :'c

But to put in my two cents -- pardon the pun -- unlike some of the characters, I doubt Two-Face as the ability to come back from the dead...... Probably no Joker either, because, come on, who can do Joker being batcrap crazy -- oops there I go again -- like Heath Ledger? Nolan wouldn't risk casting someone new. He's too smart for that.

i don't know if i like the idea of scarecrow coming back. if he is coming back, then lets replace heath ledger and bring joker back too. because gotham without the joker is like burger king running out of hamburgers. i wish aaron eckhart was coming back as two face too.

@corey Fair point, Nolan kind of sees this as his birth child and this is the way he sees it has to go out to avoid any hack trying to continue it

Bane and batman are one in the same its just their on different sides of the law.

And your damn lucky because that revealed so much even the question that everyone here wants to know.

@jayaottley Like I said we can discuss next July. I only read the last line so I don't know anything else you wrote in that large paragraph. If the whole explosion sequence does happen I think that'll be a pretty cool way to end off. It would be visually-stunning. But again...I'll have to see for myself before I trust the sources your claiming. Nothing against you...

@corey But its highly unlikely anyone would figure out who Bane is and well that there won't be another Batman because well gotham is gone

If you personally know Nolan, how do you think he'd feel if he found out you were exposing the end of his masterpiece online? I read the last sentence of your spoiler and if it is true then I'll apologize. But from the trailer I think a lot of people can predict something like that. But hey, I'm not on MW to fight with people. We can further discuss this next July :P @jayaottley

@dan1@corey@jayaottley@slysnide (You may hate me for this) but I'm going to have to side with Ottley on this one. He's been on film sets before, this guy knows what he is talking about. Everything he has said before fits in with what we're seeing in these articles. If any of you know the plot story of No Man's Land and Knightfall, this is exactly what Ottley is talking about. This movie is combining those comic stories together (which is going to be the most amazing Batman movie in ages) I simply, just can't wait for July 2012 to come!

@dan1 Well said. I have the guy on Facebook too. As far as I can tell, he doesn't seem to be as different from any other moviebuff like us. Personally, I think he's an idiot. I have no hate toward the guy, but lately him trying to act all smart on every single article has been quite annoying. Plus...he's never right about anything.

@slysnide@corey@zanyzap Here's my issue with @jayaottley... If he's as "in the know" as he proclaims, why does he spend his time here on Movieweb trading this information with us anonymous folk? Someone who claims they are inside as much as him wouldn't bother, or at least you'd think they wouldn't bother. Now he'll do his typical laughing off what I just said, etc etc.

OOOO wow, I know alot about TDKR, but erm its you guys that don't want the spoilers because you don't want the movie spoiled for you guys, I'm simply abiding by your wishes.

I've known Cillian Murphy and Liam Nesson were back on the set from ages ago.
I also know that there will be no 4th Batman film, and there is no way around bringing Bale's Batman back.

I'm just abiding by the request of you lot.

OOOO and you guys want to know about this scene, lets just say there was a higher power than Dent and he wasn't well that much of the white gleaming night as claimed to be by Gotham and as well the corruption of the government, which is Bane's goal and Mr Crane plays as judge, Jury and executioner.

Bane's goal is simple to punish the corrupt.

@slysnide I don't think @jayaottley has the inside scoops he claims to have either. I've never seen anything comfirmed he's ever said. After that Scre4m article, the guy thinks he knows everything about every movie and the process behind the curtain. He acts like the only guy who knows everything about every movie, when in fact, he doesn't know a damn thing about anything more than we do.

@ghostman: First of all, that's in the future. Secondly, production was always stated to end in November. Thirdly, films typically shoot out of sequence. So unless he got some schedule which detailed scenes, then I don't know what it could mean. Apparently the Scarecrow cameo involves him "holding court" as judge when "trying & sentencing" Tate & Gordon in which they can choose death, or risk crossing a river of thin ice. That second part fits with the above data, but the notion of the villains holding court with a mention of Dent & Bane in the scene is a bit too skeptic; despite that the source claims he was a spy on set who couldn't risk sneaking in photos.

@slysnide I don't wanna spoil anything if in fact what he told me on Facebook is true, but I'll risk it anyways: He wrote "Guess that means end of production, Tom Hardy always said that anyone is expendable...RIP :(" as a comment on my "TDKR ends production by shooting in NYC Oct 29th-Nov. 11th." status.
