Back in April, we reported that Chinese superstar Andy Lau was in final negotiations to star in Marvel Studios' Iron Man 3. Today we have word that the actor has pulled out of the project to spend more time with his newborn daughter.

He was set to play a close friend of Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark, who helps him defeat the Mandarin. The character is also said to represent, "the technology sector of China." Producer Dan Mintz revealed that they are currently seeking a Chinese male actor over 40, who has strong English skills.

The two front runners for the role are Daoming Chen (Hero) and Wu Xiubo. Chinese actresses such as Bingbing Fan and Yao Lin Chen are also in the mix for unspecified roles.

We reported in April that this superhero sequel will be a Chinese co-production, with part of the shooting to take place in China. Principal photography is already under way in North Carolina, although it is not known when production will begin in China.

Iron Man 3 was released May 3rd, 2013 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale. The film is directed by Shane Black.

    They should consider Donnie Yen!

    @skywise -- It wasn't a hidden jab.

    @Joshua-Hollaway -- Did you really change my statement to give credit to your point? I said "funny", not "comedic". Something can be comedic, and not be funny. Most comedic-sitcoms aren't funny, that's why I asked - to see if the conversion was a generic comedy-sitcom, or a notable one. Better luck next time. ;)

    @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx The jab by saying " is it entertaining/ comedic" when i said that it was indeed like a comedy sit-com thought you were being obviously obvious to further enhance your point about Seans obvious statement, atleast that is how i perceived it lol

    I'm not asking to be spoon-fed, I just find your statements to be vague.

    @themoviefanatic -- But, they have decided that they will not drop the character - which is the whole point of your argument!

    @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Nothing has been clarified about that, because they have not decided on which of those two actors will be playing that role in Iron Man 3.

    @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Re-read what i said if you don't understand why i said what i said before. I said that i suspect that he's going to be replaced with someone else to play the same role in Iron Man 3. I had said that before because their not going to just take that character completely out of Iron Man 3.

    @themoviefanatic -- "@bawnian-dexeus Well, Yes i had said that before because of the fact that, those two other front runners names are mentioned in the article meaning Daoming Chen and Wu Xiubo. But, i certainly was not saying that before to be obvious or to state the obvious." What were you trying to accomplish, then?

    Good for him. Should this even be news? This sounds kinda minor, it's not like the movie studio will blow up if he's not in it.

    @themoviefanatic The article titles "Iron Man 3 looses Andy Lau". In the second paragraph it clearly states " He was set to play a close friend of Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark, who helps him defeat the Mandarin. The character is also said to represent, "the technology sector of China."

    Next paragraph or more correctly put, "line" says "The two front runners for the role are Daoming Chen (Hero) and Wu Xiubo"

    And YOU, have the sense to comment that you suspect he is going to be replaced for the role and have the nerve to tell me that it was not the obvious? Sorry, but you made yourself look like a 25 year old idiot for the billionth time.

    God that felt good to write

    @bawnian-dexeus@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx That comment of mine from earlier that you both are talking about, is not something that is obvious to me so me posting on @XxNickTheFilmCriticXx 's wall wouldn't have been necessary anyways.
