Summit Entertainment has hired visual effects supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan to direct their upcoming reboot of Highlander. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo was previously attached to direct with Ryan Reynolds starring. Both have since departed the project.

The original project centered the immortal Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod (Christopher Lambert). He is mentored by Ramirez (Sean Connery) and spends centuries dueling other immortal rivals. After taking out most of his kind, he find himself fighting for his life against the murderously brutal barbarian Kurgan (Clancy Brown). They fight to become the final remaining immortal, who will influence the future of mankind.

Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is directing from a script by Iron Man writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Neal H. Mortiz, Peter Davis and Justin Lin will be producing.

Highlander comes to theaters in 2014 and stars Ryan Reynolds. The film is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

@skywise if they can add the queen music on the new film, then I'm happy with that :)

I don't think it needs a reboot but that's beside the point. This article has such poor writing, proofing, and fact-checking that it makes me want to chop off my own head.

"Summit Entertainment has hired visual effects supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan to direct...Juan Carlos Fresnadillo was previously attached to direct with Ryan Reynolds starring. Both have since departed the project."

So far so good... but then...

"The original project centered the immortal Scottish swordsman Connor MacLeod..."

Centered him on what? Did he experience some sort of zen moment?

    And then...

"Highlander comes to theaters in 2014 and stars Ryan Reynolds. The film is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo."

    Whaaaaat?!

Is that the quickening I feel? Nope. Just anger over crap writing. You're better than this Movieweb!

    And so ends my rant.

@Fry-3000 It is a little dated but that holds a lot of nostalgic charm for me. I agree though, it is the best. I was not a HUGE fan of the series but there were a LOT of great ideas that I would not mind if they incorporated in the reboot (Ugh I hate even saying that). Like the Watchers etc.

    @skywise damn right!!
Why do they need to do this. First one is still the best.

There is no better Kurgan than Clancy Brown. Period.

I really did not want to see this as a reboot. I would have not minded if it was a new character in that Universe.

I'd really like to see Tony Curran lead this, I think he'd ground the story pretty well, just a thought.
