Paramount Pictures has given Brett Ratner's upcoming graphic novel adaptation Hercules an August 8th, 2014 release date. The film is hitting theaters a week after Disney's Guardians of the Galaxy. Dwayne Johnson is starring as the title character. No other actors have been attached.

The film is based on a graphic novel written by Steve Moore titled Hercules: The Thracian Wars and is a more real world take on the mythological story. The writer also penned a sequel to the novel titled Hercules: The Knives Of Kush, which will likely turn into film if this first action project turns into a hit.

Brett Ratner is directing from a script by Ryan Condal. The director is producing with Beau Flynn and Barry Levine.

Production is scheduled to begin later this year.
