Paramount Pictures has given Brett Ratner's upcoming graphic novel adaptation Hercules an August 8th, 2014 release date. The film is hitting theaters a week after Disney's Guardians of the Galaxy. Dwayne Johnson is starring as the title character. No other actors have been attached.

The film is based on a graphic novel written by Steve Moore titled Hercules: The Thracian Wars and is a more real world take on the mythological story. Brett Ratner is directing from a script by Ryan Condal. The director is producing with Beau Flynn and Barry Levine.

Production is scheduled to begin later this year.

Hercules was released July 25th, 2014 and stars Dwayne Johnson, Ian McShane, John Hurt, Rufus Sewell, Aksel Hennie, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Reece Ritchie, Joseph Fiennes. The film is directed by Brett Ratner.

Like any logical human being, I'll wait for the trailer to pass judgment. Then I'll actually see the movie to form a proper opinion.

@bruce-ha Well that's a tough one, Louis Leterrier and Jonathan Liebesman failed to bring the mithology of the Greek Gods, Brett Ratner is not a good director for this types of films either, I think the best option in my opinion is Ridley Scott, he did an amazing job with Gladiator, but is almost impossible he would accept, directing either one.

@Roberto-Mata That's a great fit for Dwayne Johnson. He has the rage of Kratos aswell.

@justatadmatt Have you seen Mummy 2? The opening scene when he walked through the desert with the long hair, made him kinda remind me of the mythos of Hercules.

@kingbradley, r u stupid man, "vin diesel is non-existent", for your info, he's made a comeback with the last 2 fast movies which were both HUGE hits, and he has 2 new movies coming out this year. Oh yeah, he's definitely lost his box office clarity (sarcasm).
