Harrison Ford, who reprises his role as Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens later this year, is in serious condition at a local Los Angeles hospital after he suffered multiple head injuries in a plane crash earlier today. The actor, a longtime and avid pilot, was flying a vintage two-seat plane today, when something apparently went wrong and he crash-landed at the Penmar Golf Course in Mar Vista, California. The actor did walk away from the crash, but suffered multiple head injuries, and was treated by two doctors who happened to be on the golf course, until emergency personnel arrived and transported him to a nearby hospital.

The actor has crashed multiple planes in the past, escaping with minimal injuries. TMZ reports the actor suffered "multiple gashes to the head and was bleeding" after the crash. Harrison Ford was the only person aboard the plane when it crashed. Here's what Howard Tabe, an employee at the Penmar Golf Course, told NBC News about the crash.

"There was blood all over his face ... Two very fine doctors were treating him, taking good care of him. I helped put a blanket under his hip."

Sources first described the actor's injuries as "critical," but NBC News' sources stressed that his injuries "are better characterized as serious, including lacerations to the head and possible fractures." The crash happened at approximately 2:25 PM, shortly after the plane took off from the Santa Monica Airport, according to Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration.
