Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters sequel moves forward at Paramount and MGM
Paramount Pictures and MGM have confirmed that a sequel to Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is in the works. The news comes on the same day that director Tommy Wirkola's fairy tale action-thriller crossed the $200 million plateau at the worldwide box office, a milestone which was integral in both studios deciding to make a sequel.

Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton star as the title characters, 15 years after their nasty experience at the gingerbread house. While the two stars will most likely be back for seconds, their involvement has not been confirmed. It isn't known if writer-director Tommy Wirkola will be back at the helm. While the first movie made just $54 million at the domestic box office since opening in January, it has earned well over $150 million internationally for a current global tally of $205.8 million.

Beau Flynn is expected to return as producer, along with Gary Sanchez Productions principals Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, and Kevin J. Messick.

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters was released January 25th, 2013 and stars Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Pihla Viitala, Derek Mears, Robin Atkin Downes, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Joanna Kulig. The film is directed by Tommy Wirkola.

I never got around to seeing the first one in theaters. If Gemma Arterton returns for the sequel then i might see the sequel. I've got to watch the first movie on Blu-ray, before going to see a sequel when ever that is that is released to theaters.

Having never seen the first one I do not feel that I have much to say about this so I'll just go with something like; Gemma Arterton kicking more ass?? Hell yes@!

  9. Roberto Mata

@mr-k Seth Graham-Smith wrote the book and the screenplay for the film, I think the problem of the film was the director, because the cast was very good, as for the serious and dark tone of the book as you say, I would be interested to read it sounds like a lot better than the movie and interesting. Is there any type of continuation at the end of it? because the ending of the film left a chance to Dominic Cooper to return.

@Roberto-Mata It will be interesting to see what title they give the sequel. I have no idea what title they would give it, although i would assume that the first part of the title would be again be Hansel and Gretel. I don't think that the approximate running time would be any less then 1 hour and 50 minutes or any less then 1 hour and 55 minutes.

my only real gripe with the 1st movie is that it was insanely short
didn't feel like a qualified full-length feature film
this next one better make up for that

  17. Mr.K

@Robert-Mata But Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was based off the book that contained a serious and dark story but the film adaptation was an awful attempt to make it hip and action-packed. I suggest you to read the book and re-watch the film again.

@themoviefanatic Yeah, that was the running time for Abe Lincoln: Vamp Hunter, and I thought it was too long, I wanted to see more action than the serious touch they tried to show. Hansel and Gretel is what Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter should have been, action packed and Fun. the question is what will be the title for the second film of hansel and gretel, maybe: Hansel and Gretel: The Quest for Red Riding Hood, hahaha.

@Roberto-Mata Yeah, i think 1 hour and 50 minutes would be good for the sequel, or maybe around 1 hours and 55 minutes at least.

@themoviefanatic Before watching the film, yes, but after watching it, yes you kinda want to see more, but is appropiate. it goes like this: Introduction of characters, witches killing spree, the two siblings hunting them, a lot of action and humor, ending. That's why I want the sequel to be more story and character driven with the action, humor and fun the first film had, I just think it would be awesome to see. if they do it like this expect at least 1hr 50 mins running time minimum. Renner and Arterton are just Great as Hansel and Gretel.

@Roberto-Mata You didn't think its running time was too short?

  23. Roberto Mata

@themoviefanatic What I mean was that when you enter the theater to see the movie you don't expect to much of it, but getting out you just go: "That was a Fun movie!", the running time was fair. I hope for the sequel like @corey said, better CGI.

@therealGoku Yes, and there is movies on other channels on tv, that are longer then that but are specifically for tv though(Or at least i think there could be) .

  25. Sean

@Roberto-Mata Its one of those movies that you don't expect to much of? Then maybe they need to expand on things in the sequel to make it longer.

@themoviefanatic I saw the movie and the running time was okay for the type story and action, is one of those movies that you don't ecpect to much of and at the end is quite a good film. the chemistry between the two leads was good, the story short and understandable, the witches were very impressive, specially Famke Janssen, the action very good, overall, a good saturday night film. As for the sequel I hope they do it a more story driven film, they can do a lot with the sequel, the first film as i said was very good.
