'Friday the 13th' Reboot Gets March 2015 Release Date

This will be the thirteenth film in long running horror franchise. An official title has not been released for this remake of the 1981 classic.

Paramount Pictures has announced that they will be releasing a brand new Friday the 13th film on March 13, 2015. This will be the thirteenth installment of the long-running horror series. Exhibitor Relations confirmed the news by sharing the information on their Twitter account yesterday.

Here is what they said.

The original hit theaters back in 1980 and was directed by Sean S. Cunningham. Written by Victor Miller, the American slasher film followed a group of teenagers that are murdered one by one while attempting to re-open an abandoned campground. It starred Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King, Harry Crosby, Laurie Bartram, Kevin Bacon, Jeannine Taylor, Mark Nelson and Robbi Morgan.

No director or cast has been announced and no official title has been given to the project. It will not be a sequel to 2009's Friday the 13th remake.

Friday the 13th comes to theaters November 13th, 2015.

Kind of beating a dead horse here arent they

Just leave the franchise alone and maybe, just maybe come up with a new original horror/slasher film for these days

I'm starting to lose faith in Movieweb. I just looked on Movieinsider, this won't be another reboot, it is a sequel to the 2009 reboot. For one it says Friday the 13th sequel, and it's even labeled as a sequel, and under storyline, it even says it's a sequel to the 2009 reboot. I know it's right because it's recent and it's even got the same exact release date for it.

For one, it's not supposed to be a reboot, it's supposed to be a sequel. 2, if it's now going to be a reboot, why the hell do you still put Friday the 13th Part 2? It can't be a reboot and another part at the same time, even though the last one seemed that way sense it was labeled as a remake, yet it retold the story from part 1 of the original before skipping to the present day. So that can confuse people, it's either a remake or a direct sequel.

If you look at the Tweet's it's saying that Jason is so much better than the others.
I've seen the reboot and enjoyed it, this found footage can apply to that as a second film. Just don't use the Halloween method, I hated the second film of that and yet a third is being made.

Back to Jason, I've always routed for him because of his plight and his mothers voice playing over and over again in his head.
Killer them, kill them, they ignored you.

@john-m Yep in 2009. It was bad.

@skywise Yes, in a way those characters made their way into the lore of Jason and Friday the 13th. And somehow, if they wanted to be creative, as ridiculous as it sounds as @thedude1 has mentioned, a found footage sequel could be quite clever and unique to other franchises. It would have to be written in a way that revitalizes the concept mind you. It certainly couldn't take place during the whole film. But it could bring back the fun of franchise by setting up something new whilst building on what they already have.

Wait there was already a reboot to the Friday the 13th franchise?

@crypt The originals had a lot of plot holes but that never really mattered because they were just meant as fun little slashers. The first 3 movies actually take place over three consecutive days. Somehow I don't think that Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15 would have had the same effect.

Even though they were all rather silly, I really liked Jason. It was a villain that even though went waaaay to far I sort of felt bad for. He was abandoned by the camp counselors and died because of it. There was a level of empathy they played with in his character that other horror villains (heros?) just did not have.

@mieko-siede I really would like to see a continuation to that story because even though most of the characters were just meaty lumps to be fed to the grinder, the main 2 characters along with the sister were genuinely interesting to watch. I would like to see what happens to them next.

But maybe @thedude1 is right and I really hope he is. Maybe this is just a rumor that is getting a lot of traction.

I highly doubt another reboot is coming. Platinum Dunes who made the reboot back in 2009 is on board again so another reboot likely won't happen. Just seems like a rumor that most are falling for.

Sadly it seems the studio does want a found footage Jason movie. Which would just be awful.

I still have hope that we'll be getting the fabled Ash vs Freddy vs Jason story in the future because I figured it would never happen the timing is perfect.

@skywise I definitely agree with your first comment. Although I'd actually would have been willing to see a legit reboot as Mrs. Voorhees as the killer. But too late for that now, I don't want another reboot either. Just make that Friday the 13th part 3 in 3D and apparently takes place in the snow. Haha cause that's all we've gotten on info on the sequel since the remake was released. Which is also ridiculous.

Ok, so they why the hell would they do both a sequel and a remake? And that second "tweet" pr whatever makes no f*cking sense. Are they really adding Jigsaw to the mix? He has no place. He's dead , not "supernatural" and not from the 8-0s, nor a "slasher" so what the f*ck. I give up on having horror series make sense anymore. I loved how in the 80's they'd just make endless sequels that generally made sense with the prior film, even if the plot sucked, at least it matched. Now they're doing stupid remakes and sequels to random ass sh*t, like Texas Chainsaw being a sequel to the 70s one and not the perfectly fine remake or prequel. They're just confusing everyone and need to stop. Also Saw was a perfectly good series that flowed well and they didn't f*ck up with remakes or sequels to something silly. So now I guess they'll ruin that. Cool There's m rant.

@skywise Not to mention, they already have one dead sheriff and bodies to contend with from the beginning of the final act of the first film.

@skywise No, the reboot wasn't terrible. In fact, it was pretty good especially considering the points you just laid out. They are quite notable and respectful of the original franchise although it offered a fresh and more relatable take on the icon for a new generation with their horror films as we know them today. It would make far more sense for them to expand upon that movie they did than to reboot it entirely for a second time. Jason has seen so many transformations. They could explore this new take of Jason. He got his head scraped in a wood chipper. He didn't lose his head. He got stabbed in the chest, she might have missed his heart. They could play those angles. The end of it could have served as a nightmare and ultimately lead to the brother and sister revisiting the camp to put an end to their trouble once and for all. Along the way they stumble on a trail of bodies and find that their worst fears are realized. Since being wounded terribly Jason has learned some new tricks. Is more elusive, even more efficient as a killer. And more bold taken to the country roads outside of the backyards of Crystal Lake.

Keep the old theme of new campers, wanderers, and travelers. Sex, drugs, and violence. Just freshen the story up. They could combine new elements as they have with the first film to round it out with elements of the fourth film. Beginning with being evacuated from the woods and being transported to the hospital from which he escapes to find his way back to his domain. Hell, that could even bring awareness to him by the authorities as they begin a manhunt for him as well having the sheriff's department cross paths with the brother and sister and learn the identity of Jason. They'd be connecting the dots to a case gone long cold following some events when he was first learning to kill before covering his tracks.

Could work if they absolutely have to keep extending on the Friday the 13th name.

This is absolutely ridiculous. The reboot wasn't that great but it was absolutely terrible either. It managed to cover the first story in the credits, the 2nd in the first few minutes before Jason finds the Hockey mask and essentially the 3rd film after that while telling a new story entirely. It had the same tone as the original films.

This is a really silly idea.

  25. Writer220

That rebooted version was basically for horrible films of it.
The first Friday the 13th is the mother, Nina (ST:DS9) should have been explored before Jason got in the picture.

But i liked the new reboot, it was fresh, updated, fun but chilling at the same time, They dont need to reboot that, they can just start that from scratch , tell us how it all began, we lready know how jason got his mask and stuff on the reboot, but they can show us the backstory on his mother, the first 3mins of the reboot shows a girl killing his mom, so they can show us that story, they can even make 1 2 3 or 4 films from that so the reboot we got, would be like part 4 or 5. then later they can give us a part 6 when jason comes out of the lake.
