This movie creeped the hell out of me. Jack Nicholson has been my favourite actor since I saw that movie the first time. Anyway, while I was watching it, I predicted Jack was gonna' go insane just like the previous axe muderer/occupant of the hotel and try to kill his family. Soon I wanted his wife and kid to get the hell out of there, but after Jack's amazing performance, specificly the "Here's Johnny!" scene, I wanted Jack to win. All of a sudden, more than anything, I wanted him to get his way, especially when she tried to contain him. I kind of thought Nicholson's amazing performance crippled the horror/suspence aspect of the film. He creeped the hell out of me, but either way, I wanted him to win. And I was very pissed off when he froze to death. What a waste. Stephen King should've played it out like Thomas Harris's Hannibal Lecter, and kept him around, but have a second antagonist/conflict to overtake or something. Then we can all be happy. Anyway, did anyone else feel the same way about the Shining?

Yes, this movie thoroughly freaked the shit out of me. Thanks for reminding me of this movie so I can think of the horrifying image of the two slaughtered girls in the hallway as the kid rides his bigwheel all over the place.
Goddamnit this movie is fucked up.

One of the greatest psychological thrillers of all time. Way before MTV ruined the editing world and turned everyone into morons.

I loved this movie too, but about the end.......
I think in the book the movie is based off of, the black guy actually comes and save them.

In the book after he went nuts he forgot to keep checking on the boiler and it blew up and burned the place down. He still killed the old black man and the wife and kid still survived.
Loved the movie - the remake was one of the worst ever though.

The movie was freaky but the parts that made me literally jump out of my seat was the bathtub scene and the quick flash of Jack frozen in the snow.

I just watched it the other night, and I couldn't sleep because visions of Jack Torrance splitting my skull with an axe kept haunting me. 8O

I love The Shining! The remake was painful, but some good did come of it... it reminded me to get my ass to the video store and rent the original! And has anyone seen the parody the Simpsons did of it? The one about "The Shinning" wasn't that great, but the overall Treehouse of Horror episode it was a part of was awesome! The way Groundskeeper Willie kept getting an axe to the back in every mini-episode was hilarious!

Family Guy parodied it as well, in the episode where the Griffins inhereit the mansion, I think.
