I would not put this dirctor on a trown , cuz i think most of his films are not that good I dint see them all but here are the ones that I saw :
-Surburbia : man this movie was a bit pointless , good performance by Steve Zahn and Giovini Ribisi
-Newton Boys : one of the worst real bankrobbery film ever
-Waking Life : Man this movie never shuts up and i thou8ght that it was some pretentious crap of a film, And i really aint too fond of this style of animotion
-The school of rock : not a really bad film , but it felt more like a special after shool t.v movie. And i really dint laugh out loud watching this film
-Bad news bear : i found this one funny but if it wasnt for the casting of those kids and Billy bob this film would of been a flop.
-I want to see scanner dakly and fast food nation dho
-Dazed and Confuzed : now this movie his a masterpiec no doubt about it

It's not that; I just haven't seen anything by him.

i didnt care for a scanner darkly, or the weird cell-sahded romantic comedies he made before it.
Which wierd cell-shaded romantic comedies do you speak of?

Fair enough...I enjoyed all those films (except I haven't seen bad news bears, and I wouldnt' count SubUrbia because he didn't write it.)
It's not that; I just haven't seen anything by him.
Ahh. Well, I reccomend his stuff. I wouldnt' watch Newton Boys first, though. It's his worst film. Definitely see Before Sunrise and Dazed & Confused.

I'm curious, How is that a romantic comedy? It's more a series of philosophical conversations than anything...there's not really much of a story, and certainly not a romantic one. Nor is there much comedy in the movie. Still, I absolutely love that film.

Ohh....I thought you said you didn't like it. My bad. Don't discount it, though if you're at all interested in animation or philosophical questions. Anyway.....
The next actress is one who is a personal favorite of mine, her roles range from being Queen Elizabeth to an Elf, and she does it all with the grace of an actress from a prior generation. So, what's your opinion on Cate Blanchett? Some of her notable roles are:
Susan in Paradise Road, Elizabeth in Elizabeth I, Meredith in The Talented Mr. Ripley, Kate Wheeler in Bandits, Petal in the Shipping News, Galadriel in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Maggie in the Missing, Jane in The Life Aquatic, Katherine Hepburn in The Aviator, or the most recent Susan in the political thriller Babel.
So...WHAT'S HER BEST PERFORMANCE??
Stork
11-12-2006, 10:15 AM
I'm voting for Kate Wheeler from Bandits with Katharine Hepburn from The Aviator right behind her.
Did you hear that Cate is quitting Hollywood in favor of theater life back in Australia?

Katerine Hepburn AVIATOR no doubt about it

So, next round, another actress, and one that almost everyone loves. She's not that old, but she's proving herself a strong presence in the film world with roles in Donnie Darko, Secretary, Mona Lisa Smile, Criminal, Sherrybaby, World Trade Center, and Stranger Than Fiction...Maggie Gyllenhaal!
SO WHAT'S HER BEST PERFORMANCE?

So its setle on Secretary
Now on to are next actor , one of the greatest underated actor in films for the last two decades GARY OLDMAN. Now i think this actor is always on top of his game and he can play like any kind of roles there his. So to do him justice I will mention every role I have seen him in cuz i thought he was just great in them : Sid Vicious(Sid and Nancy),Sirius Black (Harry Potter franchise),Jim Gordon (batman Begins),Mason Verger(Hannibal), Spider Smith (Lost in space), Jean-baptiste Emmanuel Zorg (Fifth element), Albert Milo (Basquiat), Rev. Arthur Dimmesdale (The scarlet letter),Milton Glen (Murder in the first), Stansfield (Leon) , Jack Grimaldi (Romeo is bleeding), Drexl Spivey (Tru romance ), Lee Harvey Oswald (JFK), Dracula (Dracula). I havent seen his other movies
It's a really hard one for me havent decided yet , i'm torn between FIFTH ELEMENT, ROMEO IS BLEEDING, LEON, TRU ROMANCE,DRACULA and JFK

Well I made my desicion my vote goes to Jack Grimaldi in ROMEO IS BLEEDING, I think it is the only film I saw were he his the lead actor , and in this film he proved that he could hold his own. And Grimaldi his quite a complex character and Oldman pull ed it off like a pro , Romeo is bleeding his a great film , It got his flaws and it could of use a a bit more action dho.

11-23-2006, 11:17 AM

Next up is one of the most versatile actors working today. He started out as a sitcom actor, and worked his way to a serious presence but one who is still very much alive comedically. ROBIN WILLIAMS.
He has many memorable roles, like:
Adrian Cronauer in Good Morning Vietnam
John Keating in Dead Poets Society
Malcom Sayer in Awakenings
Peter Pan/Banning in Hook
The Genie in Aladdin
Mrs. Doubtfire
Armand Goldman in The Birdcage
Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting
Chris Nielsen in What Dreams May Come
Patch Adams
Sy Parrish in One Hour Photo
and his most recent role doing voice work for Happy Feet
So...WHAT'S HIS BEST ROLE?
For me, it's easily Sy in One Hour Photo. Williams' transformation into a person so believable and so sympathetic but at the same time so obsessively deranged was nothing short of brilliant. One of the best performances of the last ten years, hands down.

elrocho

Popeye in POPEYE
No seriously Alan W. Arquin in The last cut , the movie has some flaws but his calm perofamnce blew me away,
Nan never mind that choice i thought more about it's gotta be Adrian Cronauer GOOD MORNING VIETNAM , this movie really shows the world for the first time that this actor could do well comedy and drama in the same film
ClarkParker
11-24-2006, 11:49 PM
Good choices all around...but more people have to have opinions. I do get sick of the guy when he just goes overboard doing his "i'm Robin Williams, I'm hilarious" shtick...like in Robots. But overall I love the guy.
So far, its a three-way tie between What Dreams May Come, Good Morning Vietnam, and One Hour Photo. People?
Stork

Tough one. It's between The Birdcage, One Hour Photo and Insomnia for me.
I think I'm gonna go with Sy Parrish from One Hour Photo since this was where he introduced an altogether different, creepy and talented side of himself.
Strange how he's had Parrish for his last name in both Jumanji and One Hour Photo.

Nic Cage, Bruce Willis, Johnny Depp.
elrocho
11-25-2006, 10:30 PM
Danny Trejo , Christian Slater , Gabrielle Byrn , Richard Dreyfuss , Parker Posey , you could even post actors that are mostly cheesy in all there films like LL Cool J
ClarkParker
11-26-2006, 08:06 AM
We can do all those in that order, why not? First up, then is Nicolas Cage...my pick is simple, ADAPTATION. That was my number one film of 2002, and before that I wasn't a big Cage fan, but he totally blew me away in that movie. His portrayal of the real life Kaufman AND his fictional brother were flawless.
Krossroads

ClarkParker

Okay, Adaptation it is, since no one seems to be voting.
Next up is Bruce Willis, usually known for action films (often as a cop of some sort), but has proven he can also do suspense, drama, and comedy just as well. He has 20+ years worth of films to his resume, so WHAT'S HIS BEST ROLE?
Notable Roles:
-John Maclane in the Die Hard franchise
-Mikey in the Look Who's Talking franchise
-Peter Fallow in The Bonfire of the Vanities
-Butch in Pulp Fiction
-James Cole in 12 Monkeys
-Korben Dallas in The Fifth Element
-Harry Stamper in Armageddon
-Dr. Malcom Crowe in The Sixth Sense
-Jimmy "The Tulip" in The Whole Nine Yards
-David Dunn in Unbreakable
-Hartigan in Sin City
-RJ in Over the Hedge
For me it's definitely David Dunn in Unbreakable. He and Shaymalan create such magic together, and his performance is nuanced and believeable and his character could have been over-the-top be Willis makes him real. For the same reasons, I would put his role in the Sixth Sense as my second-favorite pick, with Pulp Fiction coming in third. What do you guys think?
paulrouse
12-05-2006, 02:07 AM
Bruce Willis? Surely there are far more nominations for worst role? Bonfire of the Vanities, Hart's War, Hudson Hawk, The Whole Nine Yards, The Whole Ten Yards, Death Becomes Her, Blind Date....
ObnoxiousElephant
12-05-2006, 03:29 AM
I'll go with Dunn from Unbreakable. That movie is so underrated, and Willis just a fantastic job portraying his struggling character. Also with his antithesis in Samuel L. Jackson, and Shyamalan's "magic" surrounding him, it makes it more of a choice for me.

It IS pretty slow and at times boring. I thought it was an ok film, though I did decide that I would give it another shot soon.
I'm going to go with Dr. Malcom Crowe in the Sixth Sense.
It's a tough choice between these
-John Maclane in the Die Hard franchise
-Butch in Pulp Fiction
-James Cole in 12 Monkeys
-Korben Dallas in The Fifth Element
-Hartigan in Sin City
And!
-Jack Mosley in 16 Blocks
I'll agree with those who said James Cole was/is his best performance. It's a little different from his other roles (only a little mind lol)
What did people think of Willis in 16 Blocks? I thought the film was actually quite good, though that's usually the case when I go into a film knowing very little about it. Afterwoods I heard the film itself, recieved bad reviews, which I didn't understand.. ?
Krossroads
01-02-2007, 07:28 PM
I thought 16 Blocks sucked. Willis was Willis, which means he was good. I hated Mos Def's voice and I thought the story and action was decent at best.
Mmm, I don't know. I thought Mos Def's character was supposed to be annoying, so if he annoyed you I think it's good acting/casting
But seriously, I really liked the question mark over Mos' character, whether he was being legit or not, and then for the roles to reverse at the end (I won't say anymore incase I spoil). Yeah, I quite liked it, though I hardly think it's the best film ever - I still think it's underrated. Not anywhere near some of the blockbusters he's stared in, but it kind of appealed to me.
Saying all that, the movie was still helped by Willis' performance, no doubt.
ClarkParker
01-16-2007, 05:36 PM
So, John MacLane it is. Next up is a guy everyone has something good to say about, Johnny Depp! What the guy brings to roles is incredible, a special charm that is all his own.
Notable roles include:
Private Lerner in Platoon
Edward Scissorhands
Sam in Benny & Joon
Gilbert Grape
Ed Wood
Donnie Brasco
Raoul Duke in Fear & Loathing...
George Jung in Blow
Sands from Once Upon a Time in Mexico
Willy Wonka
Jack Sparrow in the Pirates series...
etc, etc...
My vote is Jack Sparrow. As much as some others might have been better performances, the iconic level he brought the Sparrow character to is astounding. He even accomplished the unlikely feat of getting Sparrow nominated for a best actor Oscar! That's talent. If Sparrow was anyone but Depp, he wouldn't be nearly as memorable.

JIMMY STEWART
Ok, so whats his best role? Jeffries from Rear Window, or Scottie from Vertigo? Mr. Smith from Mr. Smith goes to washington was an amazing performance! Rupert Cadell from Alfred Hitchcock's Rope? Paul Biegler from Otto Preminger's Noir masterpiece Anatomy of A Murder, or George Baily from It's a Wonderful Life? Conner from The Philidelphia Story? All are great choices...
My vote is going to go to L.B. Jeffries from Rear Window. I think that movie works on so many different levels including those of voyeurism and the scopophilic nature of watching movies. Its an amazing commentary on the process of movie watching, and I think Stewart's character of Jeffries was the perfect portal for the audience into the events that took place in front of him. While Flight of The Phoenix is probably my favorite film starring Jimmy Stewart (and WAY better than the remake), I wouldn't say it's his best role. I'd say that would have to be L.B. Jeffries in Rear Window.

Really tough to say, because It's A Wonderful Life is the only one of his films I saw recently, but I thought he did a great job of capturing not only the character in himself, but also the way he relates to other characters - not to mention that he played George Bailey over the course of what, two decades?

DOH! - Sorry about that, I didn't have your post in front of me as I wrote that reply, forgot that indeed you did mention Philadelphia Story. My bad.
BTW, besides being much more character oriented, the other thing that makes the original Flight of the Phoenix so much better are the actors playing those characters. Jimmy Stewart, Richard Attenborough, and Hardy Kruger vs. Dennis Quaid, Tyrese, and Giovanni Ribisi - not much of a contest, really.

Definitely, Ghost Dog (since I haven't seen Last King of Scotland yet either).
Speaking of which, what the he!! is up with that anyway? I live on the Florida Space Coast, and this movie has never made it to any of the cinemas in my area. I mean, the film has been out for a while, you'd think at least one cinema would take a chance on such a widely talked-about film. I guess I'll just have to wait until it comes out on DVD. Pitiful...

Well it saddens me to see that only 4 members put in their vote for this actor. Ive seen a lot of his work but havent seen the last king of scotland but i'm pretty sure he deserved it. So Gostdog will go on the board.
So seems to me that ive got to put the next one.
Were missing some girls so I decided to put a young actress that I have dubb ''The indie princess''. She's been in a lot of indie films and weve recently started to see her in big blockbusters. Now if your a fan of indie films like does by Christopher Guest, Richard Linklater, and/or if your a fan of superheroes movies you should know who i'm talking about I'm talking about PARKER POSEY. So what to you think his her best role:
-Fay Grim : Fay Grim
-Callie webb : for your considaration
-Kitty Kowalski : Superman return's
-Rhonda : Adam and Steve
-Danica Talos : Blade Trinity
-Serena : Laws of Attraction
-Sissy Knox : A mighty wind
-Nick : The event
-Judy Webb : the sweetest thing
-Fiona : Josie and the pussycats
-Meg Swan : Best in show
-Jennifer Jolie : Scream 3
-Jackie O Pascal : The house of yes
-Patricia Eden : Youve got mail
-Patricia : Suburbia
-Libby Mae Brown : Waiting for Guffman
-mary Boone :Basquiat
-Brandi : The doom Genaration
now thats just a few of her many roles , I aways though she was so amazing in the Chistopher Guest films but for me her best role his DARLA MARKS in Dazed and Confused. She was the ultimate bitch , I have never seen another actress played the the ultimate bitch that good
ClarkParker
03-06-2007, 11:39 AM
This is one actress I can either like or despise, depending on the film. I'll go with Dazed and Confused, I agree with you on that. I wanted to punch her the whole time I watched Blade Trinity, though.

I've seen two of those movies (Blade and You've Got Mail), but she's definitely not one I remember.

Well id say shes pretty famous it She's been in about 60 movie (and most of them big roles). She his a lot better then most of the actress of her genaration.I'm even surprise you dont rember her in Blade 3 she his the main vilain
Maybe if you go check a picture of her youd remember her

Maybe I don't remember her from Blade 3 because that movie sucked (in a non-vampiric way).
I imdb'ed her before, but her picture didn't help much. She looks pretty obnoxious.

,I am surprise only too people cast a vote on this actress,At least me and Cp agreed on her best role so her role in dazed and confuse can go on the big board , I tought i had put a fairly good actress who was in a bunch of different range of films a well too bad for her that means shes got a forgetable face.
o.k seems I get to chose the next one , was looking at the big board and thought it was missing latino actors , The first name that came too me his JOHN LEGUIZAMO. So what shall it be :
-The groomsmen : T.C
-Ice age 1 and 2 : Slim
-The alibi :Hannibal
-Sueno : Antonio
-Land of the dead : Cholo
-The honeymooners :Dodge
-Assault on precinct 13 : Beck
-Cronicas aka Chronicles : Manolo Banilla
-Spun : Spider Mike
-ZigZig : Singer
-Collateral Dammage : Felix Ramirez
-Empire : Victor Rosa
-Moulin Rouge : Toulouse-Lautrec
-Summer of Sam : Vinny
-Romeo+Juliett : Tybalt
-Spawn : Clown/Violator
-Too wong foo , thanks for eveyrthing ,Julie Numar :Chi-Chi Rodriguez
-Carlito's way : Benni Blanco
-Super Mario Bros. : Luigi Mario
-die hard 2 : Burke
-Casualties of war : PFC Antonio Diaz
and again I left out alot
.I eard only good things about his performance in cronicas but i havent seen it.So mine will have too be a tie Between Clown/Violator for SPAWN and Benny Blanco fom the bronx fom CARLITO'S WAY. Too completly different roles but both amazing memorable performances
ClarkParker
03-14-2007, 11:19 AM
I'm picking Tybalt Romeo + Juliet. He nailed that role and brought a certain style to the modernized approach. Though I have yet to see Cronicas which I want to, and I loved him in ER last season.

Yeah, i agree i have one in mind for the next one
I agree! Come on Rocho please try and get somebody with a better repertoire of films.
Well except for LL Cool J , ive got to disagree with you there . The other actors and actress I posted have a good repertoire of films , they are all in 40 plus films , all different range of films ( Big blockbusters , indie film ect..). It's not because you havent seen half of their films that doesnt mean it's a bad repertoire , sometimes it just means youve got to catch up with a couple of films. again except for LL all the actors I post i really really like and think they should get more recognition.
Bolger
03-14-2007, 07:13 PM
That's where you're wrong, I've seen almost all of the films you mentioned. I just don't find him a high profile enough actor to base this thread off of.
Also, when I said "good repertoire", I didn't mean an ensemble of supporting roles in B Grade movies.
I don't mean to insult your choices, but if we're going to go by quantity why don't we start discussing Gary Busey right now.
That being said, I think we all appreciate you taking the time to keep this thread alive.
elrocho
03-14-2007, 08:19 PM
I wasnt insulted at all I know that most actors that facsinated me are not the Top paid actors that why i tried to start another best role trhead when i first join but Banshee locked it because of copyright, typical hollywood big shot the :).Well I thought this thread was finding an actor's of evry caliber best role , not just about the greatest actror's best role if that was the case i would not of casted a vote on tom Cruise , all you Cruise fan can bash me if you want i just dont thin he his that great. And indie film doesnt mean bmovie , Theres only ZigZag there that i consider a b-movie, most of the titles there are pretty big budgets films. Even if you dont find an actor that good and you have seen a lot of is films i cant understand how you cant come up with his best role , or the role that he did a better job with.
And about Gary Busey i can see how you could think this actor suck but there was a time in his career were he was really promising just watch Buddy Holly
ClarkParker
03-14-2007, 08:49 PM
I agree with Rocho, that this thread is for all actors, not just the Tom Cruises and Brad Pitts. We should maybe vary up the order a little, though. That way people aren't sitting out many rounds in a row. Pick the next round Rocho, and then I'll take over again if you want.

I want to start by saying ty banshee for still taking care of the big board, appraciated
Your so right Cp he really did bring some flair to the Romeo and Juliette film , memorable performance there. So since were only 3 on this actor and two for Blanco, my man Benny blanco from the Bronx from Carlito's way wins . I'm surprise not more people were familiar with his roles or like bolger restrain themselves from putting there choice because he his not a big league actor or they have difficultie's choosing the best from the worst. So i was gonna do Dustin Hoffman and post a big list of roles to do him justice , but since yall cried for a big time actor and Cp's takin over after this one I decided to screw you guys and still put one of my favorite actors. But this time ill be really surprise to not see more then 3 votes cuz it's hard to disagree that he doesnt have a nice repertoire.
So it's PETER STORMARE :
-Prison break (t.v) : Jhon Abruzi
-Nacho libre : The gypsy emperor
-The brothers Grimm : Cavaldi
-Constantine : Satan
-Birth : Clifford
-Bad boys 2 : Alexei
-Hitler : the rise of evil(t.v) : Ernest Rohm
-The tuxedo : Dr Simms
-Spun : Mullet cop
-Minority report : Dr Salomon Eddie
-Windtalkers : Gunnery sergeant Helmjstad
-Bad company : Adrik Vas
-Dancer in the dark : Jeff
-Bruiser : Milo Styles
-The million dollar hotel : Dixie
-8mm : Dino Velvet
-Armageddon : Lev Adropov
-Mercury rising : Stayes
-The big lebowski : Nihlist n.1 , Uli Kinkel , karl Hungus
-Playing god : Vladimir
-Jurassic Park 2 : Dieter Stark
-Fargo : Geaer Grimsrud
Again there a lot more
Me , Theres not a role that i dont like him in , specially in Bad boys 2, Windtalkers , Armageddon and Since I saw Constantine i cant picture anyone play Satan but my best role from him and favorite too his GEAER GRIMSRUD from fargo , fuck each time i watch this film his scenes keep stickin in my head for weeks. It's a shame that he could not broke a project he was doing for the chance to play in the Cohen's Miller's Crossing , they had a part for him all writen he was supposed to play The swedden, my choice maybe could have beeen different
ClarkParker
03-20-2007, 10:01 AM

Hey cp i wanted to pm you this question but you dont receive pm. so I want to start a new thread and need to create a similar big board like this but there things i dont know how to do : 1- write darker letters( I think there a bit bigger too)

If you go way down to the bottom of the page, there's a link that tells you all the VBcodes for doing stuff like that, creating links and images, etc. Basically, it's just like html, except you use [ these ] instead of < these >. so...for bold you would put (b)your text inside, and use those square brackets(/b), and so on. It's "I" for italics instead of "B".

So ok Gear Grismund goes on the big board, so since Cp seems to be preocupied with the movie club , ill keep posting choice , o.k I will fold to the pressure and give yall a A-list actor , hope your all satisfied with Dustin Hoffman , Theres a lot of film i havent seen him in so ill just post the one I saw :
-Meet the Focker's : Bernie Focker
-I heart Huckabee's : Bernard
-Finding Neverland : Charles Frohman
-Confidence : Winston King
-Sphere : Dr. Norman Goodaman
-Wag the dog : Stanley Motss
-Sleepers : Dany Snider
-Outbreak : col. Sam Daniels
-Hero : Bernard ''Bernie'' Laplante
-Hook : Capt Hook
-Billy Bathgate : Dutch Shultz
-Dick Tracy : Mumbles
-Familly buisness : Vito McMullen
-Rain man :Raymon Babbit
-Tootsie : Micheal Dorsey/ dorothy Micheals
-Marathon man :Thomas Levy
-Papillon : Louis Degas
like i said there a couple of his recent films i havent seen and a lot of his early films too but so far my choice is Dany Snider in Sleepers i'm pretty sure a lot of you will say Rain man but i thought this role was a bit more complex and harder too pull

O.k so Rain man for Dustin Hoffman it is . So are next actor his a kick ass actor in my book and he has been in the buisness for quite some time now, William Dafoe (keep in mind that i list only the roles i have seen him in , theres other film in is repertoire) , so what is his best role :
-Inside man : Capt. John Darius
-The aviator : Roland Sweet
-Control : dr. Micheal Copeland
-The life aquatic with Steve Zissou : Klaus Daimler
-Once upon a time in Mexico : Barillo
-Finding Nemo : Gill
-Shadow of a vampire : Max Schreck
-American psycho : det Donald Kimball
-The boondock saints : Paul Smecker
-eXistenZ : Gas
-Lulu on the briges : dr,Van Horn
-Basquiat : The electrician
-The english patient : David Caravaggio
-Clear and pesent danger :John clark
-Body of evidence : Frank Dulaney
-wild at heart : Bobby Peru
-Born on the 4th of July : Charlie Villa Dulce
-Missipi Burning : Agent Alan Ward
-The last temptation of christ : Jesus
-Platoon : sgt Elias Grodin
-Streets of fire : Raven Shaddock bombers leader
-The loveless :Vance
He really blew me away with his performance in Shadow of a vampire ,Platoon and The last temptation of Christ but my best role from him has got to be Paul Smecker from the Boondock saints. This is maybe the best gay character ever written for a film ( second in line has got to be Kilmer's character in Kiss kiss ban bang) and William Dafoe real really surpise me with that role , he his so perfect in it it's unbeleivable and that River dance scene will make any one piss in there pants.
Oh and c.p , mind refreshing the big board, thanks bud

Well, I haven't seen a lot of his bigger films, sadly. Personally, though, I loved him in Life Aquatic; it was such a different role for him. I think I'm going to choose Norm Osborne/Green Goblin in Spider-Man, though. It was overacting in the best possible way.

So on to are next actor , Now this actress is on top of almost everybody's top list of actors but really not mine and i know that most people find her really atractive but not me shes pretty plain to me and to flat for my liking , dont get me wrong I do think that she's good (not has good has everybody else thinks) but most of her roles and the way she does them his a bore for me to watch. I would even not of mention her name here but i'm probably the only here who doesnt like her has a person and an actress , so who gives a fuck what i think huh Ill put her anyway cuz i still can find her best role
o.k are next actress his the quite boring(for me ) NICOLE KIDMAN so what are her best role :
-Bewitched : Samantha
-The interpreter : Sylvia Broome
-Birth : Anna
-The stepford wives : Johanna Eberhart
-Birthday girl : Sophia/Nadia
-The others : Grace Stewart
-Moulin Rouge : Satin
-Eyes wide shut : Alice Harford
-The peacemaker : dr Julia Kelly
-To die for : Suzanne Stone Marretto
-Batman Forever : dr. Chase Merridan
-My life : Gail Jones
-Far and away : Shannon Christie
-Billy Bathgate : Drew Preston
-Days of thunder : dr Claire Lewicky
-Dead Calm : Rae Ingram
keep in mind that I only list the films I have seen , and her recent praised films or not really my kinda flick if no one forces me towatch them i never will
My choice will be her role has Suzanne Stone Marretto in To die for , She really played the bitch from hell who's ready to do anythang to climb herself to the top in the television buisness perfectly. And to me it's one of the few films that you can see life in her face
ClarkParker

O.k are next actor has put a stop to his acting carreer for good theres a rumor that he'l be in a cameo in a popular franchise but i doubt it. He will never be a Brando or Nicholson but he his one of the smartest actors there his ( buisness wise) , he did some pretty smart moves in his career. When i was young I dreamt that they would do a ultimate action film starring him , Stallone , Van Damn, Seagal and even Norris but it never happen . You probably all guess by now that our next actor is
ARNOLD Schwarzeneger so what is his best role:
-Around the world in 80 days : Prince Papi
-The rundown : Bar patron
-The terminator franchise : The terminator
-Collateral Dammage : Gordy Brewer
-The 6th day : Allen Gibson
-End of days : Jericho Cane
-Batman and Robin : Mr.Freeze/dr.Victor Fries
-Jingle all the way:Howard Langdon
-Eraser:John ''the eraser'' Kruger
Junior : Dr. Alex Hesse
-The last action hero : Jack Slater / Himself
-True lies : Harry Tasker
-Kindergarden cop : Detective John Kimble
-total Recall : Douglas Quaid/hauser
-Twins : Julius Benedict
-Red Heat :Capt Ivan Danko
-The running man : Ben Richards
-Raw deal : Mark Kaminski aka Joseph p. Brenner
-Commando : John Matrix
-Red Sonja : Kalidor
-Conan The destroyer , the babarbarian : Conan
Well i love his performance in Red heat , comando , The running man, predator and The terminator but i got to say that my pick is a tie between his role has Julius benedict in TWINS cuz he sowed the world that he his pretty funny and his role has Douglas Quaid/Hauser in TOTAL RECALL cuz with this film he showed the world that he can truly act

Ok on to our next actor .Now this one is a oldie but a goody but sadly I havent seen most of his films except the few he did before he died and his 3 well more like 2 and a half of his most popular films. I know most of you will be torn between 2 roles but trie to choose 1. i'm Talking about the legendary MARLON BRANDO. So whats his best role :
-The score : Max
-Free money : Warden Sven ''the swede''Sorenson
-The brave : McCarthy
-The island of dr.Moreau : Dr.Moreau
-Don Juan DeMarco: Dr Jack Miggler
-Chistopher Columbus : The discovery :Tamas de Torquamada
-Apocalypse Now : Colonel Walter E.Kurtz
-Super-man : Jor-hel
-The godfather : Don Vito Corleon
-A streetcar name desire : Stanley Kowalski
well i was gonna say Godfather but I thought hard about it and Ive got to say that is best role his Walter E.Kurtz in apocalypse now , the hole way he pull that character was really genuise
ObnoxiousElephant

Oh, man. Brando might be the greatest actor who's ever lived. In Apocalypse and Streetcar he gave two of the best performances of all time, but my vote has to go to The Godfather, since I consider it to be the best film of all time, and largely because of that performance. Don Vito it is!

Pursuit of Happyness for Will; he and little Jayden made that movie gold.
I've barely seen anything with Jada, but I liked her in Collateral. She played opposite Jamie Foxx quite well.

Tough ones.
Will: I'm gonna go with J, though, because I fell in love with MIB as a kid. Mike Lowrey takes second place (I haven't seen Pursuit of Happyness).
Jada: I haven't really seen her in any big/important roles so I guess I'll pretty much have to go with the movie. This makes it between Collateral and The Matrix, and the winner is (by coin toss) Collateral.

What's it like? What's it about? And, if you'll humour me, what do you consider my tastes to be?
Well i dont see why i would humour you by thinking that i know a bit about your tastes of films. I cant say that youve got a define taste , your pretty open for anything but i know that when a movie is '' depraived '' most of the times you dismiss it. I know that your a sucker for films about relationship on every level and the more real it is the more you like it. I got to say ive always been good for recomending films when i get to know what some one likes and dont likes , i get a couple of misses but usually there hit and runs.
I dint explain Jason's Lyrics cuz i thought youd check it out on imdb so heres the plot summary from it : The story of a young man who must confront his own fears about love as well as his relationships with family and friends. Allen Payne (I) plays Jason, a sales clerk at a T.V. store. He falls in love with Lyric (Jada Pinkett Smith) and finds happiness, but his family history and crazy father Maddog (played by Forest Whitaker) come back to haunt him before he can leave it all for a better life.all this set in the harshness of the ghetto life. There some really excellent performance in this film.Another film you should check out his If these walls could talk :A trilogy of stories set in the same house, but with different occupants and spanning over 40 years, deals with various women and moral crisis over unexpected pregnancies and their choice of abortion. In 1952, when abortion was illegal, a nurse deals with her unexpected pregnancy and takes drastic measures to get one. In 1974 a family housewife with four children discovers that she's pregnant and decides she can't handle another child to raise. In 1996, a pregnant college student decides on an abortion, but doesn't realize the means to go through to get one. Now this was quite a suprise for me the first time I saw it when i was 16 havent seen the second one

Sorry, maybe the idiom was lost in the translation. In English, the phrase "humour me" as a verb means to comply with someone's mood or state. I wasn't making fun of you, I was just asking you to accomodate my curiousity of what you thought my tastes were.

o.k i was gonna do an actress next but after watching the movie of the month I decided to go with an actror that i always thougth that we could of seen him in a lot more films . People always remember his ''goomba'' roles but tend to forget that he is really good at comedy .so are next actor is JOE PESCI. so what are his best roles :
-The good sheperd : Joseph Palmi
-The lethal weapon franchise : Leo Getz
-gone fishin' : Joe Waters
-8 heads in a duffel bag : Tommy
-Casino : Nicky Santoro
-With honnors : simmon Wilder
-Jimmy Hollywood : Jimmy Alto

-The public eye : leon Bernstein
-My cousin Vinny : Vincent ''vinny''Gambini
-JFK :David Ferrie

-Goodfellas : Tommy DeVito
-Raging bull : Joey LaMotta

so o.k Sara ''Sway'' for Jolie then, suprise cp dint post his pick , usually a loyal poster on this thread.
So , o.k after seeing the towering inferno for the first time recently I decided to go with PAUL NEWMAN , another actor that i really really love but i dint see that many of his early films. so what is his best role :
-Cars : Doc Hudson
-Road to perdition : John Rooney
-Were the money is : Henry Manning
-Message in a botle : Dodge Blake
-Nobody's fool :sully Sullivan
-The hudsucker proxy : sydney S. Mussburger
-Blaze : gov.Earl K Long
-The color of money : Fast Eddie Felson
-Slapshot : Reggie ''Reg''Dunlop
-The towering inferno : Doug Roberts
-The sting : Henry gondorf
-Butch Cassidy and the sundance kid : Butch Cassidy
-Cool hand Luke : Lucas ''Luke'' johnson
I usualy list all the films i have seen for an actor but here I made an ecxeption , I havent seen Butch Cassidy and the sundance kid but it's been on my to watch list for a long time. Now i really like him in Road to perdition and Were the money is, thought he was great in Towering inferno. It's been a while since i havent seen The sting and Cool hand look but i remeber that i loved those roles but my vote for his best role his Reggie ''Reg"" Dunlop in Slapshot , man i think I have seen this film like a 100 times in french and in english and were he takes that role always amaze me

Other than that I've seen Cars, Road to Perdition and some of The Hudsucker Proxy (the network connection died on me about 30 minutes in the movie).
I remember really liking Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid so I guess his performance had to have had something to do with that. Therefore my vote goes to Butch Cassidy.

O.k it's been a long time since this happen but weve got a tie here betwen Reggie Dunlop and Henry Gondorf
ok next i'm doin a familly two brothers and one wife I'm doing the Penn's ; Sean Penn, Chris Penn and Robin Wright-Penn
Chris Penn :
-After the sunset : Rowdy Fan
-Starsky and Hutch : Manetti
-Stealing Harvard : David Loach
-Murder by numbers :Ray Feathers
-Corky Romano: Peter Romano

-Deceiver :det. Phillip braxton
-The funeral :Chez Tempio
-Mullholland falls :Arthur Relyea
-Too wong foo thanks for everything Julie Newmar: Sherriff Dollard
-Beethoven's second : Floyd
-Josh and S.A.M :Derek Baxter
-True Romance : Nicki Dime
-Short cuts :Jerry Kaiser
-Best of the best 1 and 2 :Travis Brickley
-Resrvoir dogs : Nice guy Eddie Cabot
-Mobsters : Tommy Reina
-Footloose : Willard Hewitt
-All the right moves : Brian
Robin Wright-Penn :
-The last castle :Rosalie Irwin
-Unbreakable : Audrey Dunn
-Message in a botle : Theresa Osborn
-She's so lovely :Mauren Murphy Quin
-Moll Flanders : Moll Flanders
-Forrest Gump :Jenny Curan
-Toys :Gwen Taylor
-State of grace : Kathleen Flannery
Sean Penn :
-The interpreter :Tobin Keller
-21 grams: Paul Rivers
-Mystic river :Jimmy Markum

-U-turn : Bobby Cooper
-She's so lovely : Eddie quinn
-Dead man walking : Matthew Poncelet

-State of grace :Terry Noonan
-We're no angels : Jim
-Casualtie of war : sgt Tony Meserve
-Colors : officer Danny McCavin
-Fast time at ridgement high : Jeff Spicolli
Ok Sean penn is clearly the better actor but i was always more of a fan of Chris Penn . Seems to me i havent seen much of Robin's film it's funny cuz she's really one my top ten actress in the buisness today but there's a lot of titles on my too watch list (the singning detective is in the tops , only saw 5 minutes of it was clearly original) .Sean Penn is a tremendous actor but i dint feel he deserve an oscar for Mystic river , it was a good performance but not one of his best , i felt like the oscars felt shamefull that they dint give him a win for I am sam ,Sweet and Low down and for Dead man walking. I really thought for the 2000 film that Penn(sweet and low down , one of the few Woody allwn films i really love) or Richard Fonsworth( the straight story , the best lynch film ever for me).
Chris penn : he surprise me with a very good performance in an indie canadian flick The boys club and he was really great in all the right moves. And i love is character in The best of the best. But his best role his clearly Nice guy Eddie Cabot form Reservoir dogs
Robin Wright-Penn : man she was so good in She's so lovely but again her best role is clearly Jenny Curan in forrest Gump she should of got an oscar nomination for that role
Sean Penn : I find myself relly enjoying and looking forward for his weird ass perfomance in films like Hugo pool,She's so lovely , Before night falls , Sweet and Lowdown ( Emmet Ray was a weird guy and he pull it off perfectly) . I cant seem to decide so it's a tie with David Klein in Carlito's way and Bobby Cooper from

Well thats what i like , would like to see more ction like this on this thread. Now this proves Sean Penn his one of the best actors there is we all seam to a have almost all best role for him but we dint disagree at all with the other 2 (shame lol).
ok so for Robin : forest gump . Chris penn : reservoir dogs , Sean Penn Calito's way.
Now I'm in the mood to please myself ( that came out wrong , mmm that too ) anyway are next actor will always be remember has one of the best rapper there was , and he was a great poet too in my book . But I have seen all his films and most of them he plays completly different characters too perfection and I always thought that deep down this guy was also a tru actor . Now like i said I have seen all his films and it's a shame he got shot , we lost a tremendous singner and a great actor. Im' talking about Tupac '' 2pac'' Shakur , so what are his best role :
-Gang related : Det. Rodriguez
-Gridlock'd : Ezekiel ''Spoon '' Withmore
-Bullet : Tank
-Above the rim : Birdie
-Poetic justive : Lucky
-Juice: bichop
he also apeared in cameo's in 2 tv show and played in the movie Nothing but trouble has a performing artist with digital undergroud. like I said it's a really short body of work but in each film he really blew me away even in the boring Poetic justice ( his performance in that film his the only reason to watch it). And each of his films are really a must see ( except for PJ) I want to own every of his film (again except for PJ) i'm missin only 2. O.k his role playin a heroin junkie mucician with Tim Roth is pretty hard to beat but my best role from him will always be his first film Juice has Bishop , truly one of the most chilling performance I have ever seen. Really hope there will be more members who has a best role form him , but i doubt it ,crossing my fingers

Doesn't he pretty much play a gang member in every movie?
That what people would think but no he doesnt. here are his roles :
Poetic justice : he's a postal worker who wants to become a rapper
Gang related : He's a cop , crooked ,but a cop
Gridlock'd : He plays a heroin junkie who's a muscicien in a group with Tim roth and Thandie Newton (Bass player)
Juice : he's just a kid from the hood ( he's not in a gang just hang with 3 friends)
In Bullet and Above the rim's He's both a gang leader but there completly different roles.
Like I said I knew i would probably the only one here who knew all his work and really knew he had had acting talent. I recomend all his films except Poetic justice but if you wanna see that I am right and he was a great actor you have too watch Juice and Gridlock'd ( there also great films).
I know i'm the only one who voted but id like to see his name on the big board unlike LL this guy was really an actor and could of given us tremendous performance.

His best performances are obviously in Spanglish, Reign Over Me, and Punch Drunk Love. Of the three I'd pick PDL, because it's such a weird character, and my favorite film of the three. Most of his movies aren't very good with the exception of a couple of older ones like Wedding Singer and Happy Gilmore, and semi-serious ones like 50 First Dates.

And if it wasn't for his namesake played by Jean Reno in the original French version "Nikita" by Luc Besson, there wouldn't even have been such a role for Keitel in the first place.
Susan - I don't really remember her distinct performance in Thelma and Louise so I'll just join in on Stepmom.
Tim - The Shawshank Redemption.

Rocho, you forgot one role of Robbins' that I think is my favorite role of his, that of Griffin Mill in Robert Altman's "The Player." An excellent film, especially for film buffs, since it's full of jokes skewering Hollywood. He was also very good in Arlington Road and Mystic River.
As for Sarandon, I can't think of anything I've seen her in where I've been impressed by her performance at all.

tru tru but both characters are not written the same and played the same either. It's just that i have a feeling that Tarantino got inspired by Keitel's role and performance to create Mr.wolf
Rocho, you forgot one role of Robbins' that I think is my favorite role of his, that of Griffin Mill in Robert Altman's "The Player." .
I dint forget it , i just havent seen it yet eard it was pretty good, like i said i list only the films i have seen just to see how much film i have seen with one actor.
Ok then The shawshank redemption fro Tim and Stepmom for Susan .

Well ive been a fan of his ever since i saw his cult comedy Better off dead in the 80's and he really blew me away in the recent 1408 but his best role for me will always be Martin Q.Blank in Gross Point Blank , theres a rumor about a sequel for quite some time now but i doubt it will ever see the day, shame
I disagree with most of you about Tim Robbins. I think his best performance was in Jacob's Ladder.
John Cusack's best performance has to be Grosse Point Blanke. I haven't seen enough of Joan's Cusack's films to have an educated opinion.
Skid_Marx

John was indeed great in Grosse Pointe Blank, but another role he was excellent in was that of Johnathan Trager in Serendipity (I know, Rocho, you must not've seen this one yet!). These two were neck and neck for second place on my list. However, my favorite role of his has to be Rob Gordon in High Fidelity, probably because the book it's based on is one of my fave novels. Definitely worth reading, even if you've already seen the movie.
As for Joan, I'll go with School of Rock.

Well if you read every post on this thread youll realise that theres a slight difference between the best performance of an actor and the best role of an actor.
The best role doesnt mean that it have to be his best perfomance. a best role his just a role that you really cant picture anyone else to play. The way i look at it when I choose the best role. I ask myself if I had to pick only 1 role this actor could play in his carreer what would it be.
Like John cusack just gave us his performance of a life time in 1408 , but it's not my best role for him

John Cusack is no less than awesome in three movies: Grosse Pointe Blank, Being John Malkovich and High Fidelity. Tough call, but I'll go with Craig Schwartz in the middle one.
I can't really pick a best for his sister, though.
ClarkParker
07-27-2007, 02:14 PM
Haven't seen much with Joan, but she was great in School of Rock, so I'll pick that. As for John, he's a great actor, and never disappoints me. I wasn't a big fan of Grosse Point Blank like the rest of you; my pick is definitely Rob Gordon in High Fidelity. Awesome movie. That character is the most realistic depiction of a guy.

A number of actors could of pulled off the Shawshank Redemption part. It wasn't a particularly dynamic role, and it was written to perfection. Tom Hanks was Frank Darabont's first choice, and I honestly think he could of pulled off the role in an even greater fashion than Robbins.
elrocho
08-06-2007, 07:30 PM
I really dont know if Hanks would of done a better job then robin
anyway ok so School of rock for joan cusak and it's a tie between Gross point blank and High fidelity.
I said that i wanted to do a big familly of actors but i cant seem to decide anyone has a familly they would like me to do like maybe : the Baldwin's ,The arquette's , The sheen's , The Fonda's ect......
so in the men time i will give you a 80's favoriter of mine that recently blew me away in a musical , i really dont see why we dont see this actor in more serious roles, EDDIE MURPHY and why not his brother Charlie Murphy (but i'm probably the only one who knows who he his)
CHARLIE MURPHY :-King's Ransom (2005) (as Charlie Murphy) .... Herb Clarke
-His roles in The chapel show
-Paper Soldiers (2002) .... Johnson
-Night at the Museum (2006) (as Charlie Murphy) .... Taxi Driver
-The Players Club (1998) .... Brooklyn
-CB4 (1993) .... Gusto
-Harlem Nights (1989) .... Jimmy
-Jungle Fever (1991) .... Livin' Large
My favorite role of him has got to be when he was playin himself in the true story segment of the chapel show, but if i had to choose a film it would be Gusto from CB4
Now EDDIE MURPHY :-Shrek franchise (2007) (voice) .... Donkey
-Dreamgirls (2006) .... James "Thunder" Early
-The Haunted Mansion (2003) .... Jim Evers
-Daddy Day Care (2003) .... Charlie Hinton
-I Spy (2002) .... Kelly Robinson
-Showtime (2002) .... Officer Trey Sellars
-Dr. Dolittle 2 (2001) .... Dr. John Dolittle
-Nutty Professor II: The Klumps (2000) .... Professor Sherman Klump/Buddy Love/Cletus 'Papa' Klump/Young Cletus Klump/Anna Pearl 'Mama' Jensen Klump/Ida Mae 'Granny' Jensen/Ernie Klump, Sr./Lance Perkins
-Bowfinger (1999) .... Kit Ramsey/Jeffernson 'Jiff' Ramsey
-Life (1999/I) .... Rayford Gibson
-Holy Man (1998) .... G
-Doctor Dolittle (1998) .... Dr. John Dolittle
-Mulan (1998) (voice) .... Mushu
-Metro (1997) .... Insp. Scott Roper
-The Nutty Professor (1996) .... Professor Sherman Klump/Buddy Love/Lance Perkins/Cletus 'Papa' Klump/Anna Pearl 'Mama' Jensen Klump/Ida Mae 'Granny' Jensen/Ernie Klump, Sr.
-Vampire in Brooklyn (1995) .... Maximillian/Preacher Pauly/Guido
-Beverly hills franchise ........ Alex Foley
-The Distinguished Gentleman (1992) .... Thomas Jefferson Johnson
-Boomerang (1992) .... Marcus Graham
-Another 48 Hrs. (1990) .... Reggie Hammond
-Harlem Nights (1989) .... Quick
-Coming to America (1988) .... Prince Akeem/Clarence/Randy Watson/Saul
-The Golden Child (1986) .... Chandler Jarrell
-Trading Places (1983) .... Billy Ray Valentine
-Best Defense (1984) .... Lieutenant T.M. Landry
-48 Hrs. (1982) .... Reggie Hammond
It's a bit hard for me to choose just one role of him , since there more then one thast i love but i have to say that his best role his Alex Foley in Beverly hills cop franchise ( pretty excited at the idea that we will be seeing another one pretty soon)
ps dont forget to mention what familly you want me to do next, oh and again i know i'm a pain in the ass but can you please refresh the big board cp. thanks in advance bud

Null vote for Charles.
As for Eddie, it's been ages since I've seen him in anything even remotely good (Shrek wasn't too long ago, but you don't see him in that). As far as I can remember, however, Axel Foley takes the cake so he'll get teh vote.

And for me, Murphy's never been better than in Coming to America. Easily my favorite of his movies and performances, even though I've seen it way too many times.

Just watch the 2 seasons of the chapel show , man he does a lot of different characters if that not a comedy actor i dont know what is.
And has for Eddie Mrphy i recomend that you all check out Dreamgirls , he really dint get nominated for an oscar for nothing, it's really his performance of a life time, and the for a modern musical that film aint bad at all , some pretty catchy tunes and Jennifer Hudson really deserve that oscar

Kirk - haven't seen him in too much, but Spartacus is a definitely a great role of his.
Michael - not as easy as with his father. It's between Nicholas Van Orton The Game and Jack Colton from Romancing the Stone/The Jewel of the Nile, and I think I'll let the latter prevail.
Catherine - Chicago.

Since my votes on the Douglases are different, and only three people voted, it's still a three way tie.
Kirk: Spartacus
Michael: The War of the Roses
Catherine: The Terminal
As for Daniels, I'm going with the Squid and the Whale since it was the last starring role I remember him in, and it was great. He was classic in Dumb and Dumber, too, though.

I've only seen him in Arachnophobia, Dumb & Dumber, Blood Work and Good Night, and Good Luck. I saw The Hours once too, but I don't even remember his being in it (maybe because the movie sucked).
Anyway, my vote goes for the dumb or dumber Harry Dunne even though it's been ages since I saw that movie.
EDIT: As for Bridges, I'm going with the Squid and the Whale since it was the last starring role I remember him in, and it was great. He was classic in Dumb and Dumber, too, though.

Eee....good choice, Rock. Such a tough call for me. Eastwood is a fantastic actor and an even better director. I'll go with Million Dollar Baby or Unforgiven...can't decide.

I'm not much into westerns regardless of the Clint's presence so I think I'm gonna go with Red Garnett from A Perfect World.

Hi y'all, I've been away for awhile but I'm finally back online. Gotta go with "Dirty" Harry Callahan, although Bill Munny is an awfully good role as well.
