i sincerely don't believe what I see. High Tension is due out in US for 2005
http://www.movieweb.com/movies/film.php?1675
And I watched it last year here in France..why did the distributors had to wait for two years to bring this movie to America?
Anyway, I personnaly found this movie highly enjoyable and the twistis nicely found though we kindof suspect it at the beginning...but it's for me a good psychological / drama / horror film...

High Tension has been edited down to get an R rating instead of the original NC-17. Basically because not that many people will be able to see it. It will also be dubbed.
Read the article for more information.
I personally think thats a bad idea. I'd much rather watch subtitles. Its really not that big of a deal at all and for some reason they think it is.
Here are some new kickass pictures:

If you aren't excited to see this movie than there is something wrong with you.
I can't wait.

Ugh I hate dubbing!! Luckily I downloaded it so I saw it with subtitles and in it's uncut version.
I thought the movie was pretty good. However, predictable, so I'll never buy it especially since it's going to be dubbed, but if I were to I'd have to buy an import.
I think I know some of the scenes that will be getting cut to make it R rated. Pretty heavy stuff.

It's just like when Battle Royale was released in 2000 and Entertanment Weekly was announcing this to be the film that would never touch U.S soil because of it's horrendous violent subject matter
Well 2 years later I picked that shit up and still watch it and laugh and laugh and laugh, not at the movie, at America.

I've been waiting for this movie for a while. I think someone posted about it a while ago in the trailer park or something. I saw the original trailer from when it was first released in Europe. And I don't see much talking so why they dubbed it rather then just put subtitles I don't know. I'm sure though that with recent movie trends, the DVD shall be released as "The Unrated Version". But maybe that's only with Comedy movies so who knows. Either way as much as I hate the fact that, there dubbing it and editing it I'm still excited to see it cause I'm sure it'll be good.

I think the problem with American is that if it's too gory or violent, then it won't be taken well by the majority. It's all about making money. They want it to appeal to as many people as possible. The same goes for dubbing. If the movie is in another language the majority of the people are not going to want to watch it.

Haute Tension aka Switchblade Romance is without a doubt my favorite newest horror film that I've seen, I have the uncut version on dvd....
Sad thing is like a few others have said is that it's gonna be edited for U.S. theaters, glad I have the uncut version... :D
Alexandre Aja who directed the film is also gonna be responsible for "The Hills Have Eyes" remake, now I'm not really one for remakes at all, and when I heard this was getting remade over a year ago I was like oh no here comes another crappy remake of an otherwise classic horror film, but seeing how Alexandre Aja is doing this film I'm now actually kind of curious to see how it will turn out.

i agree subtitles are the way to go. ive seen french, japenese, chinese, and korean films with subtitles and it never takes more than a half an hour for me to completly stop noticing them. i dont know about u guys, but whenever i remember a part from a movie that i saw that had subtitles, for some reason i remember the charecters speaking english...its weird.
I saw the subtitled version of this and I have to admit that it was a big let down. I suspect its a case where everybody decides that the foreign film is great (because they genuinely are better than American films most of the time) but in this case the fact that it was foreign didnt change the films nature. Stylistically, story wise, scene for scene, it was merely another 80's slasher movie. The director may have been a big fan of slasher movies, but his closeness to the material meant that he didnt make any changes to a long dead formula, and as for the big twist that reveals layers to the story and main characters psychi, well lets face it, it's one of the most over used twists in history. French or English it doesn't matter, this film is NOTHING special.

I know exactly what you mean. I had the same thing that happened to me. I was trying to figure out where some line from a movie was from and I was imagining the characters saying it, which I guess made it difficult to connect it to the movie.

I thought so too. I was pretty disappointed with the twist.

Haute Tension - Another twist? Just a thought. I was wondering, how could she see through the two-way glass at the end? I began to think that, maybe, they were trying to put in another, crazy twist. Could Marie and Alex actually be the same person - you know, the whole "fighting inner demons" thing? It could be that she was STILL imagining things up to the very end. Otherwise, how to explain how she sees through the two-way mirror? There is no paranormal content up to that point, only psychological.

I don't think that's the case. I think she was attempting to see through the two way glass yet failing, after all it is two way glass. Plus she was crazy, maybe she thought she could see through it.

I thought it was terrible. Everything before the twist was good but after the twist, the movie just fell apart.

BIG SPOLER
I was actually enjoying the movie until you see the end. I hate endings where the killer/bad guy is just the main character's split personality. The one and ONLY movie where that ending is cool is Fight Club.

Hello fellow horror fans!
I am new to the forum and have a question for anyone who has seen the movie High Tension. Can someone please explain the ending of this movie to me? I have seen it twice--cut and uncut, and the ending doesn't make sense to me. I am no brain surgeon, but I"m also not a complete moron, and am usually pretty good and figuring movies like this one out. But alas, my feeble brain can't come up with a logical explanation of this movie. Please forgive me if this has been discussed before--I did not bother looking through every thread. Thanks to anyone who replies!

the only explanation I could give you is that she had a "split personality".
Now I know that this doesn't explain alot of the things that took place in the movie(her chasing them in another car for one! :? ),but its the only explanation I've got.
The only other thing I can think of for some of the other things that took place during her "split",is that she seperated herself from the "killer" in her mind, and just imagined certain things that were taking place at the same times.

Thanks for responding Demon--I kinda thought the same thing you did--oh well, I guess she was imagining some of it. anyway, thanks again. :D

Here's the explanation. At the very beginning you hear the "I'll never come between us anymore........" stuff then she says "Are you recording?" or something along those lines. The whole movie after that was Marie telling her story in this mental institution, and it's her version of the story, which is obviously not the truth. The whole big killer guy didn't exist, except for in her head. You get a pretty big clue at the beginning too, when Marie wakes up from her dream in the car, as they're driving to Alex's parents house, and she says she's being chased through the woods, but she was running from herself. Nice foreshadowing, eh? Obviously, there are a few logical problems with this, like where in the hell did she get that truck, stuff like that, but I frickin LOVED this movie. One of my favorite horror movies in the last few years. I hope this cleared some things up.
